What People are saying

Beautiful

LSMcBon 04/11/2017 22:16

We were warmly welcomed on a wild night. Our room was well equipped and lovely and cosy.
Breakfast was prepared to order and beautifully presented, as was our cream tea. We watched deer grazing in the nearby field.
The public areas are well furnished and welcoming.

Great hotel & great room

bc_websteron 18/10/2017 19:14

I stayed here for two nights, in a single room, in October 2017.

Upon arrival, check in was quick and simple. The reception area is lovely - with a proper log fire crackling away - and comfy sofas around the place. I was offered help with my bags up to my room - but i declined & followed the directions given.

My room (105) was a very spacious single room. View overlooking the trees & grass at the side of the house, and the hills beyond. The room had a tv with loads of channels (I gave up around Channel 44) together with the usual tea & coffee facilities. The bathroom was big, bright and spotlessly clean. No bath - but a very large shower cubicle.

I had dinner in the bar, which was very nice indeed. The staff were every attentive but never intrusive. Afterwards - I went through to the lounge - but moved back to the reception area - where the wifi works best. The wifi didn't stretch to my room - but it was fine for me to sit in reception in front of the fire, on my laptop.

Breakfast was good. I was served very quickly - offered the cereals etc from the buffet, while I waited on my full Scottish breakfast. Coffee & toast came too.

Check out - was quick and efficient.

Overall - the building is superb, the food is nice and the staff are very pleasant and attentive. There's also ample parking outside the building. I didn't have any issues during my 2-night stay - and would definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.

One terrible night for 199 GBP - money not well spent

Mark Aon 06/10/2017 20:41

It was supposed to be the highlight of our 16 day trip through Scotland - it was our biggest disappointment. At 199 pounds per night our expectations were high. From our first experience at the front desk to our checkout, there was nothing that was in keeping with it's claim to be a country lodge. The staff have no hospitality skills, and even trying to find where breakfast was served required speaking with 3 different staff members. We were not shown to our room, only given the key and told it was upstairs. The room was definitely not as described, supposedly 30m2 -- it was less than 20m2 including bathroom. The view was of the machinery shed. The bathroom was nice - recently refurbished. Dinner continued the theme - overpriced and not as described on the menu. The supermarket bread rolls were still icy cold in the centre, the potted white crab meat was anything but, the scallops were overcooked, grey and tasteless, and the vegetable accompaniments for the main were boiled and undressed. When we mentioned this to the restaurant staff the only comment was "oh". The bed was uncomfortable, and sleep was interrupted by some sort of plant machinery cutting in and out all night. Spiders and webs could be found in the light fittings and corners of the room. Wi-Fi was non-existent in our bedroom, and poor at best in the common areas. The room phone did not work or was not answered when we tried to contact reception. Breakfast was a sad affair - a buffet comprising of pre-brewed tea and coffee, and paltry helping of poor quality supermarket ingredients, including cellophane wrapped long-life croissants. This was definitely not what we expected - take my suggestion, save your money and stay somewhere else.

Unique HOtel

My daughter and I stayed here on a Friday evening in early September on our way to the Isle of Skye. We loved pulling up to the property and seeing deer in the lawn. Our room was lovely, with a comfortable bed and modern shower. Breakfast had everything we could want.

An interesting experience

This was certainly a step back in time. A very old building that had been nicely redecorated / refurbished very much in keeping with the building.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. We are at the hotel on the night that we stayed and found the food to be very nice. We were allocated a family room even though there was only the two of us. However the room was very spacious and had been recently refurbished to a very nice standard.
Would stay at the hotel again if ever in the area.
