Just had my birthday dinner with the family at Hog wild. Rick and Tina were fantastic and made my meal special. The chili fries were great and the ribs just fall off the bone delicious. The Cole slaw and fresh squeezed lemonade are also very good. I love this little place and will be back.
Stopped on a whim

I live in Hagerstown, MD and work in York, PA and for the past three months I have driven by this place. This past Friday 9/22/2017 my wife called me and told me she was getting me ribs for supper, so I decided to stop here and get a beef sandwich fries and slaw. Now I am not a BBQ expert and if you look at my reviews I've only been to two other BBQ places. I have to say I would talk my wife into taking a hour drive for her to try out this BBQ restaurant. The Staff was very friendly and the slaw fries and sandwich was very tasty. I would visit again

Tina and Rick are two of the most down to earth people you will ever meet. The care and love they put into your dining experience will touch your heart and your belly will BRG for more. Its a stop on your tour of apple country you will be sorry if you miss. From beef to pork to BBQ chicken with ample side selections worth every cent you pay.

This place has everything for the barbecue lover! From their sides, to the ribs,to their brisket.I have not found anything to be less than exceptional! If you could get a beer while you were there it would be the perfect place that seems to be the only thing missing.
I'm Still Not Sure What Happened

This was, without a doubt, one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had.
Hog Wild is a small place set back from the main street in East Berlin, PA. My family stopped in on a whim while we were passing through the area.
There are two or three tables inside, and several picnic/outdoor tables on the patio out front. My wife had a couple of questions because of a food allergy, and Rick, the guy behind the counter, was terse but generally responsive. We ordered three sandwiches, one of them without a roll (because of the allergy), two orders of fries, two lemonades and a can of Coke. When I tried to pay with my card, I was directed to the ATM standing behind me. So my $38 lunch just went up to $40 with the ATM fee. I should note that while there are lots of vintage (or repro) signs posted everywhere, if there's one that reads "Cash Only", I missed it.
The time between when we ordered the food to its arrival at our table was 45 minutes. Before the server walked away, I said, "Can I ask a question? Is a 45-minute wait for the food typical?" This was genuine curiosity on my part; I'd been in plenty of pit beef places and while all of them had some kind of wait, none of them took that long. She looked taken aback by the question, almost as though nobody had ever asked it before. She said, "It's not fast food!"
I said, "I get that, but I didn't think you needed to raise the cow first." Which I admit was a little snotty, but also so hyperbolic that nobody could reasonably think I meant it. Her reply: "I'm not *forcing* you to eat here." That's when I said, "Whoa. All right, then." and let it go. She walked back inside and we ate our food.
Considering the wait and the cost, the food was...OK. We weren't necessarily expecting high-end stuff (it's pit beef, after all), but after all that time it was frankly a little bit of a letdown. After about another 15 minutes had gone by and we were about done eating, Rick came outside to ask us if there was a problem with the food. I told him no, the food was fine. I barely got this out before he began to berate me for upsetting his daughter and being a jerk. I told him that I'd only asked if the wait was typical. He asked me loudly, "Do you see all the tables in there?" All three of them? Yeah, I guess. "How about you be grateful you got your food at all?" Then he launched into another bit about how, if the food was no good he'd be happy to refund our money and send us on our way. Again I said the food was fine, which somehow didn't help matters any. By now he'd moved on to how he didn't need our kind here and he was going to have to ask us to leave. Well...OK. Fifteen minutes later and after we've already eaten? There wasn't a big pile of incentive to stay at that point, anyway. I got up directly and walked away, to my car across the street. My family also got up and followed me, but this didn't stop Rick, oh no. He kept on shouting at us, and at the other customers in the area ABOUT us.
So in the end I really don't know what happened here. Maybe Rick was having an especially bad day. Maybe his daughter thought she'd heard something that I hadn't said. Maybe living in a town called East Berlin puts you in a Cold War state of mind. Maybe where there aren't a lot of dining-out options in a small town, you can get away with that sort of behavior. In the end, I didn't get a great sandwich, but I got an interesting story anyway.
