Basic accomodation right on the beach
Cato Aon 15/08/2017 10:07The really great thing about the place is the location, literally right on the beach.
Walking to the quaint town centre of Algajola takes 6-7 minutes along the beach or on the road. Right at the railroad crossing near the entrance to the "hotel" there is a small convenience shop where you can get fresh bread in the morning.
From Algajola rail station you can catch the train to Calvi and l'Il Rousse.
The accomodation consists of rows of prefabricated concrete (or a similar material) huts with minimalistic interior. The essentials, bed and bathroom where very good and everything felt very clean. The door to the room leads directly outside, stepping on sand immediately.
Making sure to brush the sand off your feet and regularly sweep the floor with the supplied broom is an important routine to keep the room tidy.
There is a ceiling fan, but no air conditioning. However, if you keep the shade down on the single window, the room kept remarkably cool though the sun was out all day and outside daytime temperature exceeded 30 degrees C
Each room has a small shaded porch with a table and chairs.
There is a reception and a breakfast room, where you can choose to buy a basic continental breakfast. We preferred to make our own breakfast on our porch.
The receptionist and cleaning staff where friendly and efficient.
Due to the wonderful location I would definitely recommend the hotel, but you have to accept that accomodation is pretty basic.
A few notes on the negative side
There where no cupboard or pegs to hang clothes on. This could easily be added by the hotel and would make the room more practical
No A/C, but as mentioned, it was not too warm
prefab bungalow on the beach, bikers welcome
ceejaydeeon 20/09/2016 21:42a few feet from water, nice sea breeze and teh noise of waves !
it muts be hot in august in the prefab for the window is small and opens just a narrow space, there is a ceiling fan: rooms are clean and simple, no tv, but NOISY with loud foreign tongues ! each bungalow has table and chairs but too close to neighbours:people sort of camp there, bringing stuff from cars and vans but no kitchen:
I LEFT BECAUSE OF NEIGHBOURS
on the sand!
Enrico Mon 21/07/2015 07:40Do you want an essential, informal, clean, friendly place directly on the beach? This is the place! Algajola has a very nice beach, warm and very clean sea. The rooms are essential (remember it is a 2 stars hotel, so don't expect luxury furniture, air conditioning, or similar things) but clean, comfortable, and most important for us, directly on the beach. I discovered air conditioning is not a must, as, a light, dry, wind during evening and night gives you quiet and comfortable nights, sleeping well. The owner and the personnel are very nice and friendly, I went twice...and I think I'll go other times, lovely place!
Above Expectations
marcogi6on 20/09/2014 10:03This original hotel is made up of sort of bungalows and it is located by the sea: you just walk out of your room and you are on the beach. Small table out of the room.
Ten minutes walk from the "center" of Algajola.
Access to communal kitchens (with fridge).
Basic, small and clean rooms: no A/C and no fan, however temperature in the room was ok as the place is very windy.
It is a sort of community experience: logistics bring you to familiarize with your neighbours (good or bad? This will depend on your neighbours...).
Excellent value for money.
Wonderful Beach out your door
captdevon 10/09/2013 12:54Very basic room with fully functioning bathroom. Very clean when we arrived with lots of clean towels. Had a table outside our door so we could enjoy our meals or reading a book. Most of tables had a sun cover over the area which provided some shade. Although no air-conditioning the rooms were cool enough to sleep due to reduced temperature at night. Left door open for fresh air which really helped. Staff was friendly and helpful. Local town was delightful, with some nice restaurants and bars and places to enjoy Corsican food.
Place was clean, the beach was wonderful with very clear water. After going to another local beach recommended by Lonely Planet, finding it small, overcrowded and expensive, we went back to the beach here. We did not try the breakfast as we elected to walk to the town for our coffee in the morning.
