What People are saying

Annual Trip to Caroll Valley Resort 2017

patriotdan on 06/10/2017 21:06

I have just returned from my annual golf stay at Liberty Mountain Resort. When I say annual, I have been going on this golf vacation for more than 25 years. I wish I knew the exact amount but I just don't know. We have always arrived on Sunday and left on Tuesday, played three rounds of golf, stayed two nights, and had four meals. Over the last couple of years, the buildings have been completely renovated and the entire plant is modernized and up scale. Of course the price has gone up over the years but I still feel the cost is still reasonable for what is provided, room, golf and cart, buffet breakfast and first class dinner is provided per day on the golf package.

The course is country club quality, although I admit that a couple of holes were in rough shape this year and were being worked on. The greens are the fastest that you will ever putt on, but true and fair. I advise looking at the score card and consulting the pro shop for advice on the tees you should play. You'll enjoy your round much more.

The staff from the General Manager down are still excellent and will do everything in their power to make your stay a great and memorable experience. I will say that I plan to make my early March golf trip again next year and as long as I can still play will keep going. I am now 75 years old. Just to show everything can't be perfect if you need heating, the in room units are somewhat noisy but can be made more more bearable with some adjustment. If they are too annoying I would see what the staff can do.

I sometimes worry that I am giving too good a review but when you find a place you really like and want to return year after year, you tend to minimize the bad and really enjoy the good things.

Super ski lessons for kids and adults

We went here for the day. It's only an hour and a half from northern Virginia! Our 2 kids did the 4 hour CLC package and my husband took a one hour class lesson. The instructors are patient and friendly. I was impressed with my family's skiing ability after their lessons. For the kids, we checked in at the CLC building and then went over to the lower level of the main ski building where a worker outfitted my kids with all the ski gear.

Expensive for the Off-Season

lindseym329 on 07/09/2017 20:13

Stayed here for a wedding. Considering that this is a ski resort, I was very surprised at how expensive rooms were for this time of year - especially considering that the only guests seemed to be there for weddings. Since it was a relatively popular event weekend (there were two other weddings at the hotel the previous day), the only non-suite rooms they had available were double beds, which actually appeared to be slightly smaller than a standard-size "full" mattress - not very practical given that most folks travel as a couple and/or are used to larger-sized beds at hotels anyways.

The room was very clean, if not modern. The shower was configured strangely - there seemed to be no way to prevent water from getting all over the bathroom floor each time it was used. We also had some difficulties with the thermostat, causing the room to get very warm during the night. The walls/floors/ceilings must have been very thin, because we could hear other guests coming/going, talking, laughing and listening to music all night. (To be fair, this was probably exacerbated by the amount of celebrating taking place that particular weekend - however, the acoustics were such that it felt more like we had house guests than hotel room neighbors.)

Staff was pleasant and friendly on the few occasions we dealt with them. Overall, our stay was "okay." Not an exceptional experience, but certainly not a bad one either. It was very middle-of-the-road.

lovely hotel and location

The room was beautiful - clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were all friendly and very informative. The pools and hot tub were great. The breakfast was delicious. The only criticism was that we were on the second floor and there were no elevators and we had quite a lot of luggage.

Apart from Gettysbury which was 15 mins drive away there was not a lot of places to eat in the vicinity and I felt the hotel restaurants were quite expensive.
