Loved this place!

We stayed here January 2017 and loved everything about it. Normally we are the resort, all-inclusive type traveler, but because of the Groupon we decided to take a chance. Friends have stayed in Negril and loved the more local experience of it, rather than the more resort vacation where you stay on site for the most part. We got to know a local, "Papa" and he was our own personal tour guide!! He took us on a tour of the hills and we met his family, went to his some and the gardens and fields and then to the Blue Hole. No amount of money could have ever beat this experience, but to book this trip to the Blue Hole with a company you pay like $60 PP!! We fed Papa and paid him $30 for us both and he was thrilled! He also hooked us up with a ride over to our next resort, about a 45 minute ride, which he tagged along, for $25! This would have cost us $50. On the way we had to change our tire, but it was the best part of my whole vacation because we happen to stop right near a family's home and the four children and Mom came out and I gave them all the snacks I had left and they were SO happy! Can't wait to go back! The people there are happy and want to make you happy as well!
Resort on the cliffs

This location is now called Coral Seas Cliff hotel. When we booked, it was still called Sunset on the Cliffs. They had no problem honouring our booking under the old name, however there did seem to be some information lost in the mix, such as how much I had already paid for the deposit. Minor problem which was rectified.
The gardens, trees and general grounds are beautiful however there are piles and piles of exposed electrical wires and piping everywhere. The rooms are pretty rundown, the bed we had wasn't very comfortable, there was a lack of pillows and I don't believe the sheets were changed from the previous occupants (there were existing stains). There were no chairs to sit in the room which was a minor annoyance. The worst part was the lack of consistent A/C, if the suns up the A/C was awful but once the sun went down it seemed to work a little better. The lady at the front desk was quite helpful.
What we were very annoyed with was the lack of functioning umbrellas to block the sun, the lack of cushions for the lounge chairs (they were very very uncomfortable). For the entire resort, there were only 3 partially functioning umbrellas but were all broken in some way. Another annoyance was that they allowed out of resort guests to stay and use the umbrellas or chairs for free. Sunset has an amazing swim spot, so it attracts locals. The pool area is nice.
Another annoyance was the resort and the bar/restaurant were run by seperate entities, so you couldn't simply 'charge to the room'. If you don't have cash, you don't eat or drink. There are no cash machines within a 45-60 minute walk. No ice machine on the property. Wifi only works in the restaurant and pool area.
The location was great with respect to being close to some great dinner spots (within 15 minutes walk), 3 dives, debar, push cart, ivons, ricks cafe, presleys, etc.
Personally I don't recommend staying here, it was pricey for what you actually got and too rundown for me.
Also reviewed hotel on Sunset on the Cliffs old name****

Please read my lengthy review under old name,
Hotel has made many new improvements since old management ran it down.. It was not all of old tenants fault but the management. Thank goodness he is out!! Just ask around to the locals they will fill you in. I'm not going to bad mouth on this site. But say the good things that happening from this day forward of new management. It will take time to get everything perfect. But it was just fine for the most part of our 11 night stay..
Staff are wonderful. Always smiling. Only main issue was A/C randomly worked. They are in progress to change out all old units. We asked for a fan. Which helped. We just took it in stride.... No problem mon!!
We can't wait to return! This was our 2nd time staying here. The view is priceless. ;)
Another great stay in boutique hotel!!!

This hotel is now called Coral Seas Cliff hotel. We didn't have any problems with our reservation not being honored with old name. We stayed 11 nights. Only issues were with A/C randomly working. But we asked for a fan to help & Asatta, the girl at front desk was always happy to help with anything.
Food was good, friendly servers/bartenders ( only 1 was working each day) Nicole & Shawnee . so keep in mind they multi task. & work 14 hour days!!! So sometimes there can be a wait. If you waited til the breakfast Rush was over, then the wait was less. But who is in a hurry? You are on vacation to slow down & relax!! The view will do just that. A few mornings we saw dolphins in the sea!!
Our room #702 had a brand new king mattress. & newer clean sheets & comforter. & decent towels & wash clothes.
Newer flat screen tv.
Staff was always smiling. Chef Enjine would make something special if you would request it. We ate several times by the cliffs/sea area.
They have newer lounge chairs. But could use extra umbrellas. The winds have damaged some. Be kind & close them if it gets windy!!
Hotel close to several great restaurants to walk to. Archway, Erica's, De Bar, Sips & Bites. & small grocery store for water-5 liter(400 JA)( & beer $200 JA each) they also had bottles of Coke & Pepsi too. Bring a collapsible cooler. Ask bartender for ice( I tipped her!!) we did have a fridge we requested in our room!! That will save you some $$$ on your beverages. Take a taxi to Bigga Store to town next to Burger King. They sell cases of cold beer $26 US EACH. ( barter with the Chinaman-owner).
We did buy a few beverages from hotel bar, job security for the staff!! ;)
Housekeeping staff Veronica & Charmae are same from old hotel as well as gardener Dudley, such a sweet man!
We can't wait to come back! It's basic accommodations. Which fits our needs. Also has room safe too. & free shuttle to sister beach hotel. 10 am. Then comes back at 4pm. We only did it one day. That hotel is at the very beginning of 7 mile beach so there is quite a hike in the sand at a slant for a bit if you want to venture where more of the action is. But it's the experience. & of course another beautiful view if the beach is your thing. We preferred the cliffs because it was like having the place to yourselves. Or take a dip in the pool which was refreshing too. There is a shower to rinse off after swimming in the sea.
And the sunsets.......ahhhhhhh!!! ;)
Back in Good hands again...thank goodness!!!!!

This was my 10th year at this property now Coral Seas Cliffs...formerly (Sunset On the Cliffs)..this property was in a 10 year lease agreement as that was done as of Dec, 1st 2016..but in the last couple years of that lease it had fallen into a lot of bad issues by it's manager (who didn't tell any returning & new booked guests who had deposits for their stay of the Dec 1st change) which was very unfortunate & unfair to all the returning guests & newbies..that said I'm extremely happy to report a breath of fresh air & a lot of love & hard work by the original owner (Ricky Jackson & I thanked him personally) & his manager (Miss Reid) have brought the Coral Seas Cliffs back to it's glory once again..still a work in progress but just little things a this point from my view with my 6 week stay (Jan. 24th -March 9th) there..yes some of the SOTC staff are not there but I can tell you a lot are & they're wonderful to be around!! I Look forward to next years stay already..Keep up the great work Coral Seas Cliffs & see you in '18
