What People are saying

Let me start by saying this was THE BEST vacation I've taken yet! Since the day we arrived the beautiful staff treated us like nothing less than family. They went above and beyond for us... from Josefina treating us like her own and taking us on adventures during her spare time, to Monserrat making sure we were fed with love and a smile everyday! I recommend this beautiful place with its beautiful views of the mountains to anyone who is thinking of visiting Panama! If you want to feel at home and be truly cared for, visit Los Establos!

The very best

Like others, I went to Los Establos as a part of a trip auction. We were a group of 6 with a mix of ages among us. We took the shuttle through the travel service provided by the hotel, which was easy and affordable. Ernesto, the driver, was always on time and friendly. The grounds were beautiful and relaxing. We went in August, so it rained every day, but it's tropical, so it's stops pretty quickly and the climate is really comfortable. It was lovely to sit in the shared spaces or in our rooms when we wanted to relax. We did a variety of activities, including the waterfall hike (amazing), the rafting (also great), and the tour.

Everyone of the staff made us feel at home. Josefina and Arturo were so welcoming and helpful at every turn. The rooms were clean and comfortable. All the meals were fantastic and Chef Nestor and Doralis were always amenable to our concerns and had a smile every day. Monserrat was constantly professional and yet easy to speak with. She finds all the ways to make the day a little special. Iliana was so nice to us as well.

I have an affinity for salsa dancing and Monserrat let me know where I could go locally. I actually suggest that you hire her to offer brief salsa classes at happy hour (cocktails are served!) as I'm sure I'm not the only one who might find that a great benefit.

I do suggest a massage from Olga. She's got expert hands and the facilities are wonderful.

My only suggestion would be to add insulation for sound between the laundry room and the Lita suite. For a normal sleeper, there's really no problem, but for a light sleeper, the morning starts early when the laundry starts. My roommate did not have a problem at all, but you might consider this.

I really loved this place and hope to return in the future. Thank you!

Loved, loved, loved it!

Yes, we also bid on this at a charity auction, and had to pay extra for the daily rates, but it was worth it. We had a great time - the staff was excellent, the service topnotch, the food great to amazing and the location was beautiful. We interacted with other guests during "happy hour" and got great advice on their adventures. We did the zip line (scary, but I'm glad I did it), waterfall hike (not for the faint of heart), coffee plantation tour and the hot springs tour. We did our own activity one morning (Pipeline Hike) and another in our party splurged on a wonderful massage. We were treated like "Downton Abbey". We went to Bocas del Toro after our stay here; it was wonderful, but like a completely different vacation. And spent a total of three nights in Panama City. Note, in Panama City use Uber to get around, but hire a private guide to show you the Canal and other city highlights!

Family Vacation

We were treated like royalty, they were so accommodating to all our needs. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Restaurant food was top-notch and the trip excursions were fantastic. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to getaway from all the stress of everyday life. Great spot to relax or to be as active as you want. Our first trip to Panama will not be our last, look forward to coming back here again.

A Great Time Had By All

Like almost everyone who has posted a review (and every guest we met), one of our friends “won” a silent auction that included a stay at Los Establos. My partner and I were invited to tag along. Being a somewhat jaded world traveler; I was honestly a little skeptical and had reservations. My biggest hesitation was that this didn’t seem to be my kind of vacation…staying at a small B&B type of hotel and doing group “activities”. Nevertheless, I decided to let that go and give it a try.

Los Establos is a somewhat rustic retreat located high above the charming town of Boqueté in lush northern Panama. The staff was amazing! Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful, and sincere. I hate this trite phrase, but we were truly treated like family.

Our stay included three meals a day, a daily activity and Happy Hour. The food was great. We went into town one night for dinner, but, overall, we really enjoyed our meals at Los Establos, which came with all you can drink beer, wine and soft drinks. The "help yourself" refrigerator in the open kitchen of the main building was stocked with a variety of sodas, club soda, tonic, water, and beer. Coffee was brewing throughout the day. Happy Hour (with cheese and snacks) was technically from 5 PM - 6 PM, but a variety of liquor was available for guests to help themselves. While we were there, all guests were adults.

The activities that were included in our stay were white water rafting, zip-lining, a coffee plantation, a beautiful bridges walk over spectacular gorges and waterfalls, and a few others. The activities we choose were all very enjoyable...especially the white water rafting which was conducted by Boqueté Outdoor Adventures. They were highly professional and provided us with an exciting adrenaline-filled outing that left smiles on our faces long into the evening.

The only negatives I can say about Los Establos (and I think they are fair criticisms), is that the beds are as hard as rocks and there is no swimming pool. It didn’t look like any of the other places in and around Boqueté had pools, but a Jacuzzi tub and cold plunge would be very welcome additions. They will tell you that they are building a swimming pool, but I suspect this is a bit of a fib. Our room didn’t have A/C, but it was not an issue in May.

Everyone in our party had a great time...including this crusty skeptic. If you like a B&B atmosphere, you’ll love Los Establos. We rented a car at the airport in David, but it's not necessary as Los Establos offers reasonable airport transfers and taxis are readily available. Uber has not yet arrived in Boqueté.
