Fabulous Amalfi Coast Location
muhannad zon 16/11/2017 13:05A beautifully located 4 star hotel on the Amalfi Coast. All rooms has a sea view. Rooms are very comfortable and very courteous stats. Excellent near by restaurants in the city centre which is a walking distance from the hotel. Easy access to boats to visit near by Sorento and the beautiful Island of Capri
Fantastic location, lots of charm
Jason Hon 05/11/2017 22:54Second time we had stayed here, last time 23 years ago. The place has been updated and extended but still has great charm. Ocean views from the room 180 degs, seeing all the way to Sicily & Mt Etna. As the rooms are right on the edge of the road can be a bit noisy at times. (people love to beep horns). Rooms are typically European so don't expect a massive room. The bed was 2 singles pushed together and had a bit of a bump between so not the most comfortable I've been in. Unfortunately no hot water for a shower after a long trip to get here. Breakfast was good without being great. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
There is a pool across the road and another restaurant. A central courtyard is very pretty. Overall very good but a few minor issues
Loved It!
Ellen Pon 02/11/2017 21:47We had a great time staying here! Yes the rooms show a little wear, but that shouldn't be what you're there for! There was some confusion about what Hotels.com said our room would have (a patio) vs what it actually had (just ocean window), but the hotel staff sure made up for it on our 2nd night! We went from 0 patios to 2 patios for free! We'd been planning to go to the beach that afternoon but decided to hang out in the room and enjoy the beautiful views. The pool was great, and you can jump right into the sea from their ladder or diving board, and have a nice chat with Pepe the pool man. Breakfast was delicious, and among the slowest meals I've ever eaten because you just want to sit there all morning people watching downtown Amalfi and the boats coming and going. There is a small interior garden with ample seating and lights at night if you're for some reason sick of looking at the ocean. Everyone we interacted with was extremely friendly and polite, which is sometimes not what we encounter as a younger couple in a nice place!
Some tips on getting there: we took a SITA bus from Salerno train station (the departures were more frequent than the schedules indicated, just make sure it says Amalfi on the front). It was a bit stressful because we didn't know how we'd know when our stop was (I was monitoring our location on Google maps). There IS technically a stop right in front of the hotel but you have to know when to ding the bell and can't have stored suitcases underneath. We ended up getting off in downtown Amalfi which is the last stop so you can't mess up and go too far. You can see the hotel from there but it is about a 7 minute walk uphill with no sidewalks. But the bus ride is beautiful and fun. Maybe mention to the driver where you're getting off!
Thank you for making the last leg of our crazy Italy adventure relaxing and enjoyable!
Great Historical Hotel
Marion Lon 31/10/2017 04:53We had an ocean view room - 180-degree view! The room was spacious as we had the loft room (Room 41). The bathroom is a little tight though. And it would've been nice if the tub had a shower. They have good breakfast selection. Overall, we had a wonderful stay.
Completely Dishonest
Ellen Son 15/10/2017 18:45We stayed here for three nights on our honeymoon and, while the hotel is historic and has a beautiful sea view, they more than doubled the price of our room without telling us. We booked a room here for two nights at $309/night through a friend of ours who is a luxury travel agent, and a few days later decided to add a third night. Instead of just adding on a third night at the previously agreed upon rate OR telling us there was an increase in the rate for the third night, they completely undid the original booking and then rebooked us for 3 nights at over $620 a night! They more than doubled the cost of the room without telling anyone, we only found out when we were checking out. When we checked out and saw the outrageous increase in price all they kept telling us was, "this is what you agreed to". Even the email they kept referencing to our agent had absolutely no mention of a price increase and the final amount wasn't listed. After multiple conversations they absolutely refused to admit to what they did or even offer to comp one night.
Outside of the fact that they basically stole from us, for that price, which we didn't even know we were paying, it would absolutely not have been worth it. To build on other reviews I've read here, the rooms are in need of remodeling, the beds and pillows are extremely flat, the food, breakfast and service are mediocre at best. We called room service for ice twice, and it still never showed up. $300/night would have maybe been fair for what you get considering the location and view but at the $620 they charged us, absolutely not.
