We love this resort. We were on our 29th Anniversary. After all the Hurricanes we originally this planned for Saint Martin. However we switched back to our reliable great service resort. Many restaurants, pools and a fantastic ocean that is very well kept . The grounds are kept very clean. If one needs attention you get it. Now FreeWifi in rooms and I used it at the beach too. Staff very respectful and pleasant
We normally travel 2 weeks but this year only 1 week. We wanted to stay longer
The resort is huge
We will be back.

Front reception staff is arrogant, food good, room clean, roof leaking and toilet water overflowed when raining. Need refurbishing. We ended up with a room with 2 beds and they were supposed to find a room with king bed. They never take care of it.

Check in, though I was traveling with little kids took 4 hours and even then the maid was only just starting to clean when we arrived in the room with the butler.
The room too was just okay. We were on the third floor of building 93, which is furthest away from the beach but it is just a pleasant two minute walk to it.
The room was large but nothing special. TV reception was nonexistent and the remote did not work. They never stocked the fridge with chips even though we called for them 3 times during our stay. And we said no alcohol to both the front desk and housekeeping but they were still regularly put in the fridge. The beds were doubles and pretty firm. Nice view of the pool.
We booked our a la crates as soon as we arrived but could only get reservations for the third night onwards through the app and help of Guest Services together. The buffet closest to us was closed all week and the main buffet was lukewarm food as nearly all reviews complain. We liked the Asian restaurant at the Esmeralda the most followed by the Garden Grill and Tax Mex one. The Italian restaurant was disgusting.
Beach was very nice though quite crowded given so many Bahia resorts share the same area. I would hate to imagine how packed it gets during busy season.
We really enjoyed the night entertainment for families including a dance party on the beach one evening. The Jasmin buffet did an amazing job with Halloween themed food that evening but the taste was still so so.
And I do wish the resort allowed us to use the Fantasia water play area but it was off limits. Trekking all the way to the water park near the main resort entrance one morning was too much hassle, since we also had to switch trolleys and wait in the hot sun, so we didn't do it again.

I can’t say enough about our time at Bahia Principe Esmeralda in Punta Cana. The people, the property, the food... all top notch. Sadly we only had three days of sun, but otherwise an amazing getaway. Would highly recommend and plan to return in future. Special thanks to Jensy from the animation team!!

The Esmeralda is a good place to stay but it is definitely not 5 star .
1. Check in is very unorganised you get dropped at the punta cana reception and just left with no explanation as to what is happening eventually golf carts turn up and take you to the Esmeralda where you are checked in with a welcome drink (ours never turned up) and your cases are taken to your rooms.
2. The rooms are large ours was on the third floor with no lifts they are clean (apart from the lamps at the side of the bed which were sticky and dusty) but in serious need of updating the brown colour scheme is very old fashioned you apparently have a butler but we never saw or heard anything from ours in our 2 weeks stay and through them you can change your pillows etc.
3. We ate in the buffet every night but 1 and the food was good and varied I am a vegetarian and had no issues finding things to eat the only issue was that the food is never hot the staff are very hit and miss sometimes you would have to ask 2 or 3 times for a drink before it appeared this got worse at very busy times .
4. The pools are good we spent most of our time at the adult only spa pool there are never any problems getting a sun bed and the cocktails etc were great from the little bar there.
5. The beach is like a cattle market there are so many sun beds there and lots of different areas where you can only sit depending on where in the hotel you are staying the sea is not the Caribbean and you can definitely not snorkel there.
Overall I would say the hotel is good but could be great we have stayed in the Gran bahia in runaway bay in Jamaica and this hotel is not a patch on it but in saying that I think it is good value for the money we paid for it would I go there again probably not but that is purely down to the beach area I think if some of the staff could learn a lot from 1 of the barman who we knew as William who's customer service was amazing.
There are some very good things about this hotel just let down by some small niggles for me which I have listed above.
