I'm on Day 3 of a 7 day vacation and very happy so far. My husband and I were here in February and loved it so much we had to come back.
We arrived very late on our first night and I do not recommend that. Our welcome was not as good as it was last time when we arrived during the day. Our room was also not as nice as what we had last time, and had some problems like a patio door that would not lock. However, once I brought this to their attention they fixed the door and also moved us rooms. I am very impressed with their customer service.
2nd Time Better than the First

This was our second trip to GBP Sian Ka'an in five months and all of our expectations were exceeded. From a smooth check-in which included towels and welcome cocktails to an envelope containing all of the paper reservations for the a la cartes we had booked before our trip by email. We had also been assigned Yair as our Butler, per our request, and he was always there should we have a need. I cannot say enough about Lucero Alvarado, who received our "info" email, gave us exactly the type of room we requested, secured all of our a la carte reservations~~there were 9~~and based on my reference to our anniversary, saw to it that our door was decorated with a banner and balloons, champagne and stems were awaiting our arrival along with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and the bed was decorated in rose-petal hearts.
And that was just the first hour!
ROOM
We requested a quiet, second floor room away from noise and were placed in Villa 1~Room 40114. It was very quiet, the A/C was like a meat locker, everything worked and we had a full length mirror. This is a Superior Suite and was an upgrade of $207 in our vacation package. It was way bigger than the standard suite and well worth the money. We will always book this room in the future. I had room for all my stuff and I do take stuff.
HOUSEKEEPING
Our housekeeper, Gustavo was wonderful. He did not speak English. On our first day, we introduced ourselves(en espanol), told him we were early risers and out of the room early and requested he make up our room early. And for 11 days, that is exactly what happened! Clean, clean clean. Flowers and rose petals. A different bed linen arrangement every day. And fastidious attention to towels and amenities. Our mini bar was refreshed daily, and requests for extra waters and coffees always arrived, as if by magic. We tipped him daily and will request him if possible on our next stay.
BARS AND DRINKS
Cannot say enough about smiling, singing Melissa and Marte at the SK Activity pool and SK beach. Melissa was very attentive to the alcohol levels in our glasses and not only offered refills but also brought fruit kabobs--all this without leaving the pool or our lounger.
The next best place to get drinks was the lobby bar, where the drink service was good and the availability was top shelf.
RESTAURANTS
In our 12 day stay, we ate in 9 a la cartes, 2 buffets and the special Apple Vacation Dinner show. Our favorite a la cartes were: Alux(thank you Joel for arranging the rose petals and flaming strawberries), Maiko and Arlequin. These 3 will ALWAYS be on our pick list in the future, if not once, maybe twice.
ANIMATION STAFF
These guys and a gal, dance, sing and work their hearts off to see smiles around the activity pool and on the Sian Ka'an beach. A typical pool day's activities included: yoga, croquette, bocce, water aerobics, ping pong, bingo, crazy games and water volleyball. On the SK beach, there is yoga and zumba and some crazy games. You can do all or none. The activities were led by high energy Luna, Pepe, Ephram, Elder, Simone and Chuck, who arrived late our second week, and is still an unproven commodity. Thank you guys for alot of laughs.
ENTERTAINMENT
We only saw a few shows: Jersey Boys, Acrodance, Cirque de Sol. They were all good.
WHO ARE SK GUESTS
People often ask about the age bracket of the guests. In my opinion, the average age is 55, mostly couples with three exceptions. One, there were groups of 12 to 14 male golfers, younger, ate, drank, golfed, drank and sang and danced with each other in the SK bar. A site for sore eyes to be sure. Second, there were slightly more younger people in November than May. This was because so many trips had to be changed because of hurricane damage. And third, there was a one week international convention of HeartMath, which brought in a lot of health care related working professionals.
All that being said, it is a clean, well maintained resort with staff who really do want to make you happy. But if you are looking to party all night long, you might want to look elswhere.
We are already looking at dates for our next SK stay. Lucero, I look forward to sending you my requests email.
5* food and staff only

The good
Staff here work very hard and are very friendly. The food variety and buffet and specialty restaurants service are second to none (especially faustino)
The pools and beach areas are fantastic. Great bar service and entertainment from chuc and the team each day and night.
The road trains are a great idea- ideal for getting around the other hotels, regular and efficient.
The not so good
The rooms are 3* at best. Basic not particularly large and very very damp. All have that fusty smell. Only a steamed up mirror in the bathroom. But cleaned to a good standard daily.
The front desk management not helpful when we asked to move rooms. Very cold no concern or apologies. They need some good customer service training!!
The lobby is open to elements so there are birds in all the time. A nuisance to say the least this is also a problem at the cenote 24hr snack bar. Why sanitize your hands on entry when wild birds are helping themselves to food!.
We would go back but would upgrade the room. Hopefully with no damp. The overall warmth of staff out weighs the issues.
Second Trip at the Sian Kaan, this time for our Honeymoon

This is our Second trip to the Sian Kaan, this time we were down for our Honeymoon.
Amazing Amazing cannot say enough good things, we loved our trip, the resort , staff and food continues to impress us and will definitely come back again next year and bring some friends along
From our first arrival at the Resort we warmly great and check in was a breeze, Jessy at the front desk immediately remember us from 2 years ago, we were beyond impressed and touched that she remembered us.
We ate at most of the Ala Carte restaurants our favorites were the Los Corrales and Cozumel, and the Maiko, although we couldn't get a table at the Alux, the buffet was equally as good. Never had a bad meal or even an OK meal, it was all good all the time.
At the breakfast buffet it was always a pleasure to see Eric and Eglydie ( I may have spell her name wrong) they both always made sure that we are taken from the minute we walked in.
Roberto, at the late night snack bar was always a delight, please pleasant to talk to and always attentive no matter what time of the night it is. Great job buddy for keeping true to service they Sian Kaan offers, you are awesome
The shows, most were good. The variety shows were very good and the acrobats those guys were fantastic. We didn't really care much for the for the Dream girls or Jersey boys, they were ok, those are things can see here in Canada, there was nothing wrong with them, but it was OK.
I was hoping to see more of a Mexican context, like a Mariachi Band or something along that line, after all we are Mexico ,some shows like that would be much more enjoyable.
However one the show that we did miss was the Trivia Night, we had so much fun and engaging, we were hoping that was still there but it didn’t happen at all.
Our Room was very well maintained, love the little touches that they put from the rose petals on the bed, to the champagne welcome or side that says honey money.
Overall, we had a fantastic time and we are looking forward to come back down next year.
