Good value
replicason 08/11/2017 23:22I stayed last Saturday, arrived around 8pm.
Went to the room, bloody hell what were they thinking about, the paint and decor was terrible.
Apart from that the bed was clean and comfortable, proper kettle, plenty of coffee and tea bags, nice biscuits too.
The pub looked quite nice, had a look at the menu but decided to walk further down the street for dinner.
I must say that the breakfast was one of the nicest i have had.
Nice choice of cereals, a real toaster, juice etc.
The cooked breakfast was absolutely amazing, black pudding and haggis eggs and mushrooms nicely cooked.
I would stay again, great value, just needs the bedrooms decorated.
"Hell hotel"
leanne eon 17/10/2017 22:19Had a night stay here as i was doing the 10k in Aviemore. I knew it wouldn't be anything that great but I thought if it's clean and comfortable it would be fine however I was shell shocked as I stepped in to the room, couldn't quite believe it. It was a distasteful blood red colour on top of wallpaper that was a really poor paint job that a 5 year old child could of done a better job of! plaster board was showing! stained carpet with floor boards on show where the bathroom door was. A bottle of mouldy milk sitting at the window sill! Cobwebs all over the ceiling, dust embedded everywhere. Bathroom with holes in walls, and not well maintained! Didnt have a shower as I didn't know how clean it was, a big spider was also in bathroom which I had to get rid of. It was also like a sauna as the radiator wouldn't go off and made such a loud noise, had to get a barman to sort the problem I was so angry had a terrible night sleep as I kept thinking of spiders and how unclean the mattress was. Just wasn't acceptable for paying the same amount as I would on a travel lodge to get something that was so poor. Its an embarassment to scotland, you get so many visitors coming to Aviemore and if they had to stay there then it's shocking! Was very tempted to sleep in my car!
The whole place needs a refurbishment! Toilets were also not maintained in the bar with cardboard to replace a toilet sistern. If you have any standards don't stay here at all.
Breakfast...
Alan Gon 14/10/2017 23:29Howling! Napkin had snot on it, milk jug had crusty milk residue all over it, cutlery dirty, cups dirty, menus were black!
Had a mouthful of beans and left! Avoid at all costs!
People are reviewing saying breakfast was the only good point.... I can't imagine what the rooms were like! Absolutely barking!
reply to all the complainers....its a pub not a hotel
neily61on 12/10/2017 23:31I needed a room at short notice in Aviemore, mackenzies £40 a night including breakfast ,hilton £120 no breakfast....
I read the reports after I had booked the mackenzies and thought I.d made a mistake ..not at all ..I got the room with red walls ,so what? the room was comfy, clean sheets and filter coffee and the toilet and shower worked .
check in was good ,ok the bar wasn't busy but the two guys we dealt with were very pleasant and in the end we ended up eating in the bar rather than walking into aviemore for food for lunch and the food was excellent.after a decent nights sleep we went for breakfast ,same two guys there and again very nice if I could have faced it the full scottish was egg, bacon, sausage, beans, tattie scone, tomato, mushroom and toast, wife had it and was delighted ,I had orange juice... cereals were also provided and coffee and tea.
all in all for the price ,excellent,ok the kareoke in the bar till 1 wasn't great but I knew it was on... for all the people who have written negative reviews on here you are obviously trip advisor savvy, you read the reviews what do you want for £40 a night ? the sign outside the mackenzies says "a pub with rooms" if you want a hotel go to the hilton and pay £120 a night and then add your breakfast on top of that if not stop whining you cheapskates .
its a good pub with good food and some rooms to sleep in..and nice staff
Terrible
Valerie Pon 25/09/2017 19:33One night in this place is one night too long. Bar person leaped on us to pay the room as we arrived ( already worried with the amount of broken glasses and a pair or underpants in the car park) Walked up to room via filthy carpets and wires hanging precariously out of toasters - the banister almost falling off. Twin room no 3 ripped carpet - holes in the plaster - ripped bed sheet - broken shower head - disgusting smelly shower curtain - radiators came on - tiny room felt like a sauna - no way to turn them off or a thermostat so I approached said bar person who did her best at ignoring me then told me no-one else in who could help - they would go off at some time - before I suffocated I hoped. This place is clearly a watering hole for the young locals but a filthy dump and I advise you not to stay there unless you are desperate!! Event took place 19th September 2017
