awsome location and best hotel

Great hotel, well maintained and at perfect location, right opposite the main beach and near to the market. So you can walk and go shopping. In house restaurant is excellent but a bit pricey. Otherwise a great experience, with good service and very good staff.
A Palace that needs a good spruce up

I feel a little mean by only scoring this hotel as three stars. That is because I really enjoyed my stay here and there is much to commend the hotel. Unfortunately there are issues.
Let's start with the positives. The position is perfect, on the beach, but set back a little from the road to lessen the noise from the relentless vehicle horns.
The room was spacious and all the essentials worked well. It had a comfortable bed and excellent air-conditioning, allowing excellent sleeping conditions.
I loved the bar with reasonably priced drinks and a superb view. At lunch and dinner my wife and I enjoyed excellent food.
The staff were helpful and efficient, and very willing to make us foreign visitors welcome.
As for the negatives, all could all be addressed quite easily resulting in a much improved experience.
Breakfast was poor, particularly for hygiene. The juice dispenser was dirty as was the cutlery. The bread was exposed and speckled with flies.
In our room all the soft furnishings were tired. The curtains were faded and dull and could not be closed. The sheets, pillow cases and towels were old and grey.
So, in summary, a basically sound hotel that could easily achieve five TA stars if there was a management blitz.
Come on, Mahodadhi, you can shine!

Had a great experience. Old place with decent service. Food is good. On the beach facility. Once used to be one of the best destination, need refurbishment and better service. Vast courtyard and royal era building
Pathetic Hotel !!!

They charge you fortunes for peanuts.
Location is the only advantage, but then there are many hotels on the same location.
Service is really poor, be it room service or restaurant service.
Rooms are awful, not maintained well. Dirty looking linens (we asked the house keeping guy as well, but no action taken).
The worst breakfast ever I had, for a Hotel who charge you loads of money. Quality of food is just average. Variety of buffet is zero and its bare minimum menu. Same menu every day. When i asked for a omelette, they denied saying that in today's menu they will serve only boiled eggs.
My Advise !!!. Please don't waste your money on this hotel.
Can be a great property.......but very poorly maintained and poorly run !!!

The hotel building has a commanding facade and looks stately.....it is right on the main beach.....and has a vast courtyard surrounding it but is unfortunately otherwise hemmed in from all sides except the front by other properties.......still, you can stand at the reception desk and you can see the ocean right through the front door.....you can see far out into the ocean from the terrace restaurant......but alas....that's where the romance of the heritage hotel ends......the upkeep is poor, the staff is jaded, the service is impersonal and the food is very average at best........it takes a lot more than just a great looking old building to make a hotel that can even be labelled as "heritage"......don't be taken in by the claims - this place is nowhere even close to that label......it used to be the Pantha Bhavan run by the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation in olden times.......one would have breakfast at this place and then board the OTDC buses starting from here for conducted tours.......and it feels that the sloth of the government run tourism department has been left behind even though the property has changed hands.....the cottages in the courtyard are surprisingly well made but are poorly maintained, are too crowded together on one side of the property and are right next to a narrow alleyway.........a motorbike thundering down the alleyway might well sound like it is right inside your cottage !!! Considering all this, the place does qualify to be labelled as overpriced. The people at the property really need to pull up their socks if they want to live up to the claim of being even a semblance of a heritage hotel. Would not really recommend it to anybody I know !!!
