This was our first visit to a wetland lodge. We honestly weren't sure what to expect. We are so pleased we chose something different to our "big 5" norms, and so very happy we chose this one. Unique, well staffed and excellent guides. Our guide Michael was hands down the most knowledgeable guide we have ever had, and we have had a few. His personality is instantly welcoming. He taught us so much in a short amount of time and it was fun to learn from his perspective. We somehow got the honeymoon suite and it was fantastic! We both fell asleep on our outdoor porch the first night while listening to the crickets, toads and night sounds. We also had different animals wander through our "backyard". Really awesome! We had a look at one of the standard rooms and they are beautiful as well. The outdoor showers are fun.The boat ride is not to be missed. Hippos everywhere! Nothing was too much trouble and we were beyond taken care of. The food is excellent. We were only there for 2 nights, next time it will be four at least. I will recommend this gem to everyone.

perfekt time in a wonderful surronding we have had a wonderful time during game drives, chill out time at the pool, diner at the boma and breakfast with bird - super. Hippos and antelopes crossing, extreme friendly staff - everybody has felt nice

this lodge was the best on our trip
especially the game drives where wonderful with Mike. He is super.
We saw so many animals - even the hippos out of the water.
The trip to the private beach is special too. Thanks to the team.

We enjoyed our days in Makakatana. Our family suite with two rooms was very comfortable with AC and beautiful bathroom with in -and outdoor shower. The safaris werde exciting, the knowledge of ranger J. M. was outstanding, we learned and saw so much. Therefore thank you so much!

We spent 3 blissful days at Makakatana Lodge and it was absolutely wonderful. Beautifully located on the shores of Lake St Lucia, hidden in the forest with lovely chalets, warmly decorated main building, warm and cosy 'boma', etc. Service is very attentive and personal, food from Nadia and her team is delicious, the guides Michael and Jaundré taught us loads of new things on wildlife. And do arrange for the beach 'safari' and the boat trip on the lake with lovely Warwick, who is full of stories. Thank you all!
