A different side of India

After the noise and chaos of big city India our overnight stop at Manvar Resort was like an oasis of peace. The main resort has beautiful gardens and the facilities looked to be well maintained. We arrived early afternoon but were still offered lunch (food was fantastic!) and then a choice of departure times for the jeep safari out to the Desert camp, this gave us the opportunity to relax around the beautiful pool for a couple of hours. Our guide on the jeep was very knowledgable and gave us some of the history of the area while pointing out the wildlife. We stopped at a village to watch a blacksmith at work which was fascinating before making our way to the top of the dunes to watch the sunset over the Thar desert - a surreal experience!
We then travelled out to the Desert Camp - about 7 kms from the main resort. The tents absolutely exceeded our expectations - lined with beautiful fabrics and with a bathrom that rivalled most 5 star hotels especially considering they were attached to a tent! Food, entertainment and hospitality were excellent. the highlight for me was being able to sit out the front of my tent and watch the stars as this was about the only place where the smog did not obscure the view.
if you are travelling in the area I would highly recommend an overnight stay.

Loved It!

What a great experience! We had lunch at the resort before getting in the jeeps to the camp. The resort was very, very, nice. I would have loved to stay there, too. The jeep ride through the camp was fun and offered some great photo-ops.
The tents are gorgeous. Big bathrooms with nice, hot showers. It took us a minute to figure out that there was a fabric, tent style door for privacy to the bathroom. At first we thought it was open concept. Beds were comfy.
The show at night was almost the best part. The musicians were very good and the dancers were crazy. During the show we were served appetizers and were offered drinks from the bar. It was lovely to sit out in the desert with the warm breeze, the amazing performance, and the great service.
I highly recommend this camp. Not so sure about the camel ride, though. :)

Manwar is my most favorite place in India. Middle of nowhere real desert expriance. Well decorate tents very clean all things what you need you find here. After hectic visit in Jodhpur Manwar is very authentic place for relaxation. Highly recommend

A perfect place to wind-down an India trip.

After a hectic, exhausting, two weeks in India our small photography-centric group ended up in the deluxe tents at Manvar Desert Camp. It could not have been perfect for our last two days in India. The deluxe tents are huge, have super comfy beds, great air conditioning, beautiful bathrooms with slate rainforest showers. There is fun music and dance entertainment (far more professional than most places in India) and excellent food in a private dining area--we ate under the stars each night. There is no wi-fi available except at the base hotel which is far away by jeep, but if you have an ATT or Verizon (US) roaming program, the personal wi-fi hotspot works perfectly as there is strong signal for roaming phones.

I cannot speak for the non deluxe tents as I did not see inside of them or meet any of the guests (the camps are about 400 meters apart), but we took over all the deluxe tents as a group and had a blast. There are separate dining facilities for the deluxe tents so it is a great, private experience for a small group. Staff was attentive to our every need. One could get beer and wine delivered to their tents late at night and I found the environment to be very quiet for a great night's sleep.

We took jeep journeys out to neighboring villages to photograph wonderful local people a couple times each day and the slower pace was a great way to wind down our busy, crazy, Rajasthan trip.

I'm not quite sure what has caused the negative reviews I have seen of this resort, but I experiences only professional, caring staff, excellent food and wonderful tents.

Note: Again, this review is for the DELUXE tents only. I have no idea what that standard tents are like. I highly recommend the deluxe tents.

What an experience

We had a good lunch in the resort before being driven in a jeep to the camp. The tent was large with comfortable beds and a good sized bathroom and a nice sitting area just outside. The activities in the camp were amazing - a long camel trek at sunset with helpful guides and the early morning jeep safari to see the wildlife and to visit a local family. We were accompanied throughout by Mr Singh - a Manvar guide who was very attentive and knowledgeable and keen to help us gain the most from our visit. The food was fantastic, given the cooking conditions and we enjoyed the dinner by the pool and the breakfast we had there. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. We loved the stay and learned a lot.
