Great if you're into birds

This is a beautiful place with lovely, small comfortable bungalows and great tree-houses. The food served here is really good. There were issues with the power supply to both bungalows and treehouses on a daily basis and a little disappointed not to see any monkeys the 3 days we were there. Birds in abundance!

My girlfriend and I stayed at Maquenque Lodge in October for a 3 night stay. It was the highlight of our stay. We are birders and saw more birds more close up than we have seen in our other travels through Central America. The amount of birds present was astounding. We also saw coati, poison dart frogs etc.The staff were very nice and friendly. Vicky, Jose ( guide and maintenance man) Jason, Chico and all the rest of the employees were fantastic. The food was plentiful and delicious. We stayed in a bungalow and it was very clean and well maintained. One problem is that we never had hot water and those kinds of things don't bother us. We never notified anyone because we were ok with it. The grounds and gardens were well maintained and the swimming pool was really nice and the water was cool. The place was so pretty and wildlife was abundant. While eating at the open air restaurant guest could watch and photograph birds feeding on bananas. Dozens of honeycreepers, toucans, tanagers, etc fed within 8-14 feet of guest. We are already planning another trip to Maquenque Eco-Lodge.
Fantastic place for wildlife.

After driving along a very rough road we arrived at Maquenque Lodge and were taken by boat across the river to the lodge. We were warmly welcomed with a very cold drink and then taken to our cabin which overlooked the lake. Our main purpose was to photograph wildlife and we were not disappointed. We could sit and eat our meals whilst lots of birds and animal ate the fruit put out for them close to the dining area. There were lots of parakeets, aracaris, honeycreepers, tanagers and also agoutis, coatis and my husband videoed a parrot snake eating a frog!!!
The staff were fantastic and the food was freshly cooked and very tasty.
We did have a thunderstorm one night which lasted for eight hours as it was right overhead, so no sleep that night!! WE really enjoyed our stay and would love to return one day. Highly recommended.
Unique place for wildlife

This is one of the best spots in Costa Rica to see a lot of different birds and other wildlife For a nature photographer it's a walhalla.
The guys from the lodge build for us a special design feeder to get the best pictures from the birds. Different frogs - monkeys are around and you can do a great river boat tour.
Only problem is that there is only wifi at the restaurant and the reception. Because of that the people only watching there phone at dinner time. It's a very easy those days to get wifi everywhere for almost nothing ( little remark ) I will be back when I'm CR
fantastic place!

we stayed at maquenque eco-lodge for 2 days and it was absolutely amazing. we stayed at treehouses wich are the most beautiful houses i've ever slept in. they're located high in the trees in the middle of a rainforest. the view is amazing and you can wake up to the roaring of the howler monkeys and the singing of the birds. the service, the pool, the food and all the activities that maquenque offers are amazing. it was a wonderfull experience at maquenque eco-lodge and it's definitely on of the most beautiful hotels i've ever stayed at.
