I visited Mar Hall in October for my 21st having been twice before.
On arrival the staff were friendly as usual and a gentleman carried our bags to our room. After some small chit chat he found out it was my birthday and returned to our room a short while after with chocolate covered strawberries and "happy birthday" written in chocolate. I thought this was absolutely lovely and was very grateful to the staff.
This was my first time staying in a regular room, as I usually take advantage of the junior suite Black Friday deal, and I was not disappointed. The room was a good size and clean, as usual.
We dined in the Cristal restaurant which was fantastic, as it had been during my prior visits. It has a lovely ambience and brilliant food. It has to be noted that although a nice establishment, it never seems pretentious as the likes of Fonab can be.
The breakfast was also very nice and once again the staff were too.
I have seen a lot of comments regarding this not "being a five star establishment", however at the grand total of 220 for my stay including dinner and wine, I actually think it is great value for money. A half decent hotel in Glasgow is £100 a night and the same for a good restaurant. I will always return to Mar Hall for the food and lovely ambience of the estate as a whole.

Attended an event in the marquee. It as either freezing or roasting depending on where your table was.
Service was shocking re the food being served.
Bar service diabolical. Only 2 staff for the 300 folk there.
Toilets were unclean and unkempt!
Not impressed at all.

I spent one night at Mar Hall and the deluxe room we booked was really lovely and massive. We went for dinner to the Cristal restaurant which was amazing! The chef is great and the waiter was very helpful. We had a nice cocktail in the Grand Hall and there was a girl singing which was lovely.
However, in general it's not a 5 star hotel in my opinion. I had been a few years ago and it was lovely then but I really think it now needs to be done up in order to be charging 5 star prices. The corridors, for example, are very basic and they were even a bit dirty with some wrappers and an empty plastic wine glass lying around (at the entrance). The service was fine but not always 5 star in my opinion.
I wouldn't return unless there is a refurbishment.
However, the Cristal restaurant was amazing so would definitely dine there again!

My wife and I took the opportunity to spend an evening at this amazing hotel. The moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the receptionist, Stephen. Although our room wasn't ready (due to us arriving very early), we decided to have lunch. The surroundings are beautiful, and its main lounge area is stunning, complete with a grand piano. But nothing prepared us for our room - an oversized, spacious suite with a four poster bed. As my wife enjoyed a SPA, I opted for the gym, which is generously equipped.It was refreshing to find a hotel gym that rivalled a dedicated one.
That evening we had dinner. My wife opted for the Sea Bream, while I went for the Mushroom Risotto. Both were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Yes, the food here is enough of a reason to return.
This is a wonderful hotel, with heaps of character. But what makes it special is the people. The service was faultless. Special mention to: Amanda, Victoria, Chloe and Craig.
Both my wife and I cannot wait to return.

What an amazing venue to attend a wedding at. The main hotel entrance and walk through the main hall to the room the ceremony is held in is stately in its design and feeling. The backdrop in the room the ceremony was held in is across the river Clyde and is stunning. Perfect in every way.
The reception was held in the marquis in the grounds, it was spacious, the food was excellent and lends its self to creating a great and enjoyable atmosphere.
The staff were very attentive and a special mention to Amanda who went out her to way to ensure the wedding party and guests has a great evening. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
