Stayed twice on a 10 day trip. 1st room excellent but 2nd small. Check out was long and laborious even though we had pre paid. Owner didn't seem to care. Would stay again because of location but felt some staff thought they did not have to try due to it's popularity.

We traveled here for the Rally Italia Sardegna and wanted to stay in Alghero.
La Margherita was in a pretty central location, about 10 minutes from the service center where the cars were being housed.
The staff at the hotel, made this hotel better! As it's a bit dated.
Super friendly, very informative and gave some excellent restaurant tips!
Parking was a bit of a pain, as it's down a street close by to the hotel, but you have to ask for keys and unlock two gates in order to get in a out, which after a long day of exploring is an additional hassle. Nothing massive, but just additional. It's also not free parking, you pay per night.
Wifi was rather slow.
Breakfast was included and quite basic.

The images on TripAdvisor from the rooms are really misleading. Upon arrival we were looking for a bed that wasn't as hard as the bed we got, so we were given 7 room keys to select the room/bed we wanted. All of them looked much more shabby than the 'nice' room on the picture. Furthermore the rooftop was in total decay and no breakfast was served there.We visited this hotel well outside high season and that was noticeable everywhere. The breakfast downstairs was poor and at 9 AM all the fresh goods were finished. Comment: "my boss doesn't want too much food there".
When checking in it was confirmed that usage of the spa was included, but this turned out only to be for the pool, steam room or sauna were €15 pp.
All in all very poor hospitality!

Given its great views over the town and the bay towards the "Sleeping Giant" I am sure when it opened La Margherita set the tone for other hotels to follow.
Some decades on, it could probably do with a bit of facelift, but not to make it another soul-less hotel, but just to add to its charm.
The staff were very friendly, offering free Italian lessons when collecting the key, Uno, Quattro, Otto.
Room was clean and comfortable, although the bed would be a tad too hard for some folks.
Breakfast was ok. Typical hotel buffet fare, but more than adequate.
Car Parking that comes with the Hotel is underground close by, but if you are going to use it then a small car is advisable, as its tight.
Beach associated with the hotel is a bit of a hike away, so if you have got little ones, I would personally book somewhere with closer beach access, but if you haven't got little ones to consider and want somewhere close to town, within easy access of some great restaurants and bars then this is as good a choice as any.

We had a really good stay here, the location was great, the room was good and clean and was cleaned daily. The spa was amazing and very relaxing.
Breakfast was good and served on a balcony which had great views.
