Holy grandma's furniture! Let's start by saying the lobby and restaurant area in the hotel are nice, clean and modern. Enter the room, however, it's stepping back in time. The bed is low to the ground, and old wooden headboard. The desk, chair, nightstands and TV stand are all from 20-30 years ago. I read the reviews and decided to stay here anyways, and it was a mistake! There are so many other options in downtown Cedar Rapids that are only a short drive away. Do yourself a favor and stay there instead.

Bug Fest

The hotel is outdated. To my recollection, the hotel has not been refurbished in at least 12 years when it was under another name (Collins Plaza). The entire hotel is dated. Everything, the bathroom, the ceiling, the furniture and apparently the exterior walls/windows and interior.

Particularly bad was the presence of bugs in the room and IN THE BED. Whats even worse, when I went to the front desk to speak with the manager on duty (evening hours), when I mentioned that there were a lot of lady bugs in the room, some dead, some still alive, the manager said "well it is the season for the bugs." While that may be true, I would have expected much greater concern, and at least tell me that this is unacceptable, we are doing everything we can to get that resolved, something. That is not the message he conveyed. It was the floor managers laissez faire attitude that was the most off putting. The young lady behind the counter was very sweet, and apologetic. They tried putting me in another room on the other side of the hotel, but that room had bugs as well. At which point, I took my things that had been packed for the room move, and left the hotel 1.5 days into a 6 day stay. I am triple, double back flip, rewards member with Marriott and have been for 10+ years, but never have I seen such lack of concern for bugs IN THE BED.

When I asked about any sort of renovation schedule for the hotel he said "we HOPE to get some money for renovations in late 2018. Maybe." Wrong wrong answer.

Regular visit

I roll through here on a regular basis and the hotel is pretty consistent - great staff keep this ageing and dates hotel running, a credit to the Marriott chain.

Only criticism is the housekeeping could be a bit more consistent.

Pleasantly surprised

Okay, so this hotel is perhaps a little tired, but it's clean, and airy (with a massive atrium area), and my room was actually 'two' rooms, with a separate table area and a small corner set aside for a microwave and sink. This also meant two TVs, so watching late at night I didn't have to crawl into bed to catch up on the football news of the day.

It was a little bit of a pain to have the bathroom right by the front door, walking through the dining / meeting room, and on into the bedroom, but you get used to it over three nights.

Dinner in the restaurant was good, though it felt odd to have the entrées arrive when we were only half way through the appetisers, and then to have plates cleared away before everyone was finished their different bits of the meal.

The reception staff were always really, really helpful, and being able to use the airport shuttle bus to get about was an absolute boon.

I'd also recommend a little bit of jaywalking across the street into Noelridge Park, if only because when it's sunny you might spot a hummingbird (as well as monarch butterflies, blue jays and American robins, all of which I managed to tick off).

Great service, in need of a renovation

Decent Marriott in the outskirts of downtown Cedar Rapids. The service is great, very nice front desk staff and restaurant staff. The hotel, lobby, rooms and entire property really needs to be renovated. Overall an average hotel.
