What People are saying

Not a good experience

diffelen on 02/10/2017 07:59

Airco is already switched of in September and on a hot night the only alternative is to open the window. With a noisy street in front impossible to sleep. Bathroom is too dark and thus not able to shave properly. Plastic bed under cover is NOT comfortable.

Lots of things to like

Paul S on 13/09/2017 22:58

Stayed for a couple of nights whilst away with work and overall very impressed. It's very quaint and has a boutique style about it. The bar is small but pleasant and I particularly enjoyed the Waterloo beer at a reasonable price of around 4 euro. The breakfast was spot on with lots of choice. The room was big and very clean but perhaps a bit dated and not particularly well laid out. You couldn't see the TV from the bed and plug sockets were in very strange locations, having to balance the kettle on the radiator cover to boil it. In summary, very fit for purpose and look forward to staying again.

Bit out of town

David B on 31/08/2017 22:30

About a 20 min walk into town with not much to do. Bar and restaurant very expensive. Brilliant breakfast though with including hot buffet. No tea or coffee making in our room. Restaurant very posh and not suitable for children.

An excellent hotel let down by easily avoided errors and omissions

This converted sugar refinery has been transformed into a charming hotel complex, It is ideally located for visiting the Waterloo battle sites, with plenty of parking.

The air conditioned rooms are modern and well designed with quality fittings, comfortable beds and a spacious bathroom with a state of the art waterfall shower and separate directional shower head.

The public rooms are welcoming and well set up with a sense of space. The bar and terrace are perfectly comfortable while the original arched brick roof architecture and cast concrete pillars of the restaurant were most impressive.

The standard of cuisine and the restaurant's ambiance were the outstanding feature of our visit.

Now for the frankly thoughtless and even inexcusable errors!

Sunday evening and the bar had run out of gin! In a large, otherwise high quality international hotel this is real incompetence, especially as the owners reputedly own a gin manufacturing company!

On arrival both a our room safe and that of our friends' was locked and inaccessible. Ours was promptly opened, while our friends, despite repeated requests never was. They should have both been accessible on arrival.

We had no kettle or hospitality tray in our room. Apparently standard rooms don't. We requested a kettle, naively imagining it might come on a tray on which there might also have been cups. We were wrong and ended up going to the restaurant to get cups, spoons and a couple of tea bags ourselves.

The staff were most courteous, obliging and helpful. However we did suffer at the hands of one seeming disinterested, not to say insolent, waiter on our first night at dinner, who having delivered the wine left the white wine in an ice bucket a metre or two away, never returning to pour or move the wine bucket within reach, which I had to do myself. My chum asked for a large beer in addition and the waiter raised his eyes to heaven.

These errors and omissions while each in itself relatively minor, did not live up to the otherwise high standards of this hotel and especially its outstanding wine list and menu and left us all with a disproportionately compromised impression.

Friendly staff, nice hotel

Perfect location if you want to visit Waterloo and/or Brussels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We booked at the main hotel but our room was at the Lodge next to the hotel; not sure why. The room was spacious but I would have liked to be able to make it darker at night. Breakfast was disappointing for vegans; loads of animal products but nothing plant-based except for jam...
Free wifi and free parking, which was cool.
