What People are saying

Excellent hostel, perfect crew.

Jonas Olivier P on 26/10/2017 20:13

I was coming here after a long trip from Sydney and had directly my place in the room what they had for me. There is a swimming pool and a bar what is open till late. It's good in the city center and all is on a walkable distance. Beds are very clean and nice.

Good place to stay...

I stayed at the YHA as I know from experience they are great hostels. This is no different. The staff were friendly and facilities clean. Downfalls I found being a solo female traveller is that it is quite daunting rocking up at night, I had no choice as the majority of flights arrived in Darwin at midnight. It is on a main street so walking past pubs and clubs alone was scary. The noise at the hostel is always insane so I reccomend sraying here if you do not plan to sleep. Other than that it was great. I would stay again but would opt to arrive midweek to avoid being harassed on the street late at night.

Grand for short stay

This place is ok nothing special but ok for a short stay. There is alot of ppl living in hostel. The kitchen facilities are very good but can get busy.

The place is very loud at the weekends there is lots of partying and drink deals.

Quirky cool and friendly hostel

This is a great hostel to stay in if you're looking for a a central location on the main town strip, close to all amenities including shops, supermarkets and fun night life in the evening! Also pretty much next door to Crocosaurus Cove which is an attraction with live crocs!

Upon check in I was greeted by super friendly staff who I had a laugh with immediately. They also have a couple of reptiles in tanks which was pretty cool too! Bedding is provided from the reception. I was staying in a 4 bed female only room. The room was quite small for having potentially up to 4 people and lots of bags, but luckily it was just me and one other girl in the room. Lockers are provided but you need your own padlock. There is aircon in the room which is definitely needed in Darwin! However it didn't do a great job, I'm just glad I was on a top bunk right underneath it!

There are female toilets located on the same floor as what I was on, which was on the 1st floor (above the ground floor) however the showers were located on the floor above and so it can be an awkward journey like from my room, into the only lift to head upstairs to the showers wrapped in just a towel! The lift does also move quite slowly because it is the only lift and there are lots of heavy bags and cases from other people staying there.

The kitchen is very big competed to a lot of other kitchens I've seen in hostels. A bit messy and not very clean when I used it, but it was ok. Has all the equipment and cutlery that you'd need.

What I liked best about this hostel is the outdoor social area. Plenty of benches around the bar and where the pools are, this is also where the dining area is with sheltered areas and open areas. There are also separate sections for smoking and non-smoking areas. The bar was already open when I arrived at check in time, and it does get quite busy, especially in the evening! They do allow people not staying in the hostel to come up and buy drinks, which is popular because the drinks are very cheap and they do a good deal on pitchers of beer! They also play fun games to win drinks tabs, and hand out wristbands for free entry and free drinks to the other clubs on the strip. In terms of being worried about noise from this bar, I'd suggest asking for a room away from the Main Street and the bar area.

There are lot of people that I met staying here that are either looking for work or already working, so they are more long-term stayers. So a good place to stay to make connections to find work around Darwin.

Comfy bed, but that's all

We stayed here as an overnight stop on a tour, so I had no choice on where we stayed. The staff in reception were very helpful and told care with our hand luggage whilst we went to retrieve our hold luggage from another hostel that we'd left it at.

WiFi is free, but a 24 hour code needs to obtained from reception. We were on the ground floor and we had good signal.

The bed was comfy and we had an ensuite, which was clean and worked fine. Not state of the art, but you wouldn't expect that. The shower was consistently warm and stayed at temperature.

The downside is that we were there on a Friday night, so everyone was having a party (upstairs I assume - I think there is a bar there). Sleep was elusive that night. Not the hostels fault, but something to consider if you are wanting a good night's sleep.

Overall, I would say this is a good value place to stay if all you want is a place to sleep. But don't stay on a Friday night!
