What People are saying

Dreadful experience afternoon tea.

jmlbites on 18/06/2017 14:26

My daughter bought a Red letter day voucher for two for this venue. My birthday treat whilst on holiday in Bournemouth .
I was really looking forward to this .
We were shown to a table in a completely empty restaurant overlooking the pool & garden , after a few minutes our order for tea was taken , these were brought within 5 minutes , the waitress told us that our afternoon tea would be served shortly . We had pre.booked this so we assumed we wouldn't have to wait long.
As we waited & waited , we started looking at the cutlery & crockery, al were dirty & marked badly. A dried blob of food on one plate . We waited 55 minutes for our treat to be served , our tea long ago drunk. We told the unsmiling waiter about our crockery & cutlery, he removed it without comment and several minutes later replaced it . We thought that someone would come to check if we needed more tea & to ask if everything was alright . The restaurant was like the Marie Celeste , no_one was visible.
The finger sandwiches had mustard on every one of them, they seemed to be cut with the same knife , difficult to enjoy any of them , neither of us like mustard.? There was so much smeared on the bread . Next we tried the overcooked scones , they had a dark brown colour & were dry . No clotted cream as in the hotel description for afternoon tea , instead we had a little pot of what seemed like watery whipping cream . My daughter had a wander around to try to find a member of staff , no-one could be found . By this time we'd been sitting for almost 90 minutes. We were gutted , my daughter very upset.
Eventually I went through to a bar area & found the waitress who took our drinks order. I asked if we could have the rest of the food to take out , she said that she would put it in a box for us. Another 10 minutes went by , she returned with a brown paper bag with the cakes wrapped tightly in cling film ! No enquiry if everything was ok , even though it was clear from uneaten sandwiches & burnt remnants of scones ! I was fuming by this time. I had to voice my dissatisfaction of food poor service. Still no apology , she said it was a mix up. We should have been served straight away, she thought the manager was serving us & he thought that she was serving ... beggers belief. She could not explain why we had no clotted cream or why the sandwiches were all smeared in mustard or why the scones were burnt or why we were not offered more tea . She did offer to tell the manager , but by that time we had just waited long enough & I was then in pain & needed to leave there.
We returned to our hotel hungry ! We tried to unwrap our little cakes & pastry , all were just a squashed sticky mess.
What we did to deserve that is beyond me . It will sadly be my last visit to Bournemouth & my daughter really wanted me to have a lovely memory.
Red letter days just told me that they would take my complaint to the hotel manager, it was an expensive disaster, it cost £36 from Red letter days .
I could find nothing positive to say about my experience at this hotel, it just totally ruined my treat .

Great hotel

Stayed here last weekend with friends. A lovely hotel, very clean and tidy. I stayed on a double room which was very big, lots of space, very big spacious bathroom and also another small room attached to it, which had a sofa in (which I think could have been used for a third person ). Great facilities, unfortunately didn't have time to use them all during our stay. The cocktail bar is lovely and has a really nice outside seating area. The hotel has a brilliant service for taxis - you just go to / call reception and they press a button which has a taxi arrive within 5-10 mins. If you don't have breakfast included, be warned it is a little expensive to add on the day at £15. Will definitely use this hotel again when visiting Bournemouth.

Midweek break

Lovely hotel. Bedroom very nice bathroom bit tired but still functional. Breakfast is not up to the rest of the hotels standard. Service and staff are ok! Ideal location cliff top views and eady access to Bournemouth town bars and restaurants.

Superb!

We stayed for a short break booked through Travelzoo and we really cannot fault this Hotel at all.The staff were without doubt the most helpful friendly bunch we have encountered in a long time. From the moment we booked in we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. It would be very hard to pick out one member of staff but the restaurant manager in particular was very warm and made sure we really enjoyed our dinner. We are already planning to return but will stay a little longer next time.

Potentially a good hotel just needs a refresh

I stayed in the area on business.

The hotel has good parking at extra cost.
The room is old fashioned in need of a refurb.

The bed was comfy and the room was big. Wifi in the room was faultless.

Breakfast was very good.

The hotel has a gym but the bike is broken, everything else worked ok.

Great location and friendly staff.
