This hotel is in a nice location with very easy access to local attractions. On the down side, the hotel is dated and in urgent need of refurbishment. Whilst the restaurant staff was very polite and helpful, the same can not be said for the reception lady. There was a problem with the door to my room, the lock had jammed and it would not lock. The lady was very dismissive saying I should just try and turn the key in the lock. And not believing me. After a while explaining to her that it simply does not work, she sight and send the restaurant waiter up. He confirmed the problem and got shouted at and after a little while he figured a way to release the latch. i wanted to raise this with the manager on departure but was told by her that no one was available and that it got solved anyway.

We stayed in this hotel on a recent trip to Banbury. The front of the hotel is very pleasing on the eye, however the "New" part of the hotel is in need of a little TLC as it smells musty. That said our room was very pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We were not disappointed with this lovely hotel. We were lucky enough to get room 52 which (as well as having a great history and supposed ghost) is spacious. It has a separate small sitting room with sofa bed which my daughter used. Our sleep wasn’t interrupted by any ghosts and our bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful, parking was free. Overall a much enjoyed break. Thank you to the reception staff who suggested this room as it was ideal and for the easy check in and check out.

My family and I were passing through Banbury and saw this lovely old hotel and thought great let’s pop in for afternoon tea.
We were politely told that this had to be preordered. Not a problem so we just ordered 3 hot drinks, water and 3 scones.
After waiting for 25 minutes my wife politely went to see what was going as it was a simple order. After another 10 minutes we left.
Avoid at all costs if want a quick drink and snack because the service was non existent.

We had a god room at a good rate . The room had been freshly decorated and was very clean . The bed comfy and room had all we needed . The staff informed us there was a wedding that night and that they had moved us away from the noise . We heard nothing . Staff were friendly helpful and attentive to our needs and made the stay very pleasant .
