Experience a 400 year inn in 21st century

Cristian M on 12/11/2017 08:57

This is a 400 years inn adapted to a today hotel. If you want to experience something new this is the place. Small rooms, with inclined walls, ceilings or floors but very clean. The cracking wooden floors are covered with carpets. Being an old inn to find the room you need to follow the signs. There are some places where you need to watch your head. The noise on the street starts somewhere at 6 am. Hotel has the curtesy to give you some ear plugs. The breakfast is basic. On the other hand the people are great. They are very willing to help and very friendly. The location is the key for this hotel. It is exactly in the center near to train station, shopping, restaurants and bus stops.

One night in Reading

Stayed here midweek. Had a really lovely room (320). The hotel is an old, quaint style. Great spacious room with dressing table and a nother table and chair which was handy for doing some work. Fab powerful shower, and to my delight as well as kettle, tea/coffee sachets I had a Nespresso machine. The breakfast was very good, wide selection of continental/ cold buffet and an option for cooked. My only real disappointment was the evening meal choice - there is an Indian restaurant on site, but vegetarian. There is a separate area for non Indian, but not a great menu choice. Also there is a door close to all the tables which leads into what could be a quaint courtyard, but really frequented by stream of smokers in and out (we chose to eat at the Prezzo right next door). I would suggest moving the smoking area somewhere else and expand the menu. Aside from that would stay here again.

Great situation and ok accomodation

Situated slap bang in the very middle of Reading town centre the hotel is perfect for most things.
Couple of hundred yards from the mainline train station and even less to John Lewis and a large M &S.
subsidised parking is not so far away although you might want some help if there was a lot of it

Not as advertised on accorhotels.com - not even close:-(

laregledujeu on 06/11/2017 00:22

My worst hotel experience in the last five years:-( A barely average hotel framed as a charming coaching inn on the Accor website. Really very disappointed, a complete waste of money:-(

Specifics are hard to manage as almost everything about the room and the hotel itself was wrong (you name it: price, bed, room, breakfast, temperature, bathroom, service delivery ie breakfast hours or bar closing times).

Positives: The staff made the best of it and were helpful and friendly. The room and public areas were clean.

Am very grumpy indeed and looking at options to find non-Accor accommodations for my next business trip:-(
