What People are saying

Just ok

nikkim1071 on 22/11/2017 20:40

Sadly the name of the name being the Grand Hotel is slightly misleading as it is by no means grand. It has a great location, with the reception and bar area being very nice, but once you go upstairs to the rooms then things go slightly downhill.

My room was cold on arrival but I put it down to it being a cold day. I was scheduled to go out very quickly not returning until the early hours of the morning. When I returned the room was still cold but it was late and I retired straight to bed. In the morning it was even colder and it was then I realised that the room didn't have any heating at all. There was even no heating of any description in the bathroom.

My view was non existent as the windows were frosted glass and I could see nothing at all.

Sound proofing is also very poor.

Would I return - sadly not.

Not the quality I expected for the price. Too Noisy and no warning.

The only good things I can say are:
The staff were excellent. The room was clean and tidy. The entrance lobby is lovely.

The bedroom was very small, there was no bedside table, or even plug sockets next to the bed. I arrived at 4 pm and the room was freezing, it was 8 degrees outside and there was no heating on. I rang reception and asked why, and they told me someone would come to sort it, they never did, at 6:30 pm as I was going out for dinner the heating started to warm up. I had a shower and that was ok, it needed more pressure, but it did the job (just) I got back to the room at 9 pm as I needed an early night after a busy day in training sessions. When I tried to sleep the noise from a party downstairs was off the scale, I rang reception at 11 pm and told them I was unhappy as I was exhausted and needed sleep, they told me it would stop very soon, but it was gone 1 am before the noise stopped. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. On top of the nearly £100 price tag, to charge £8 for parking is a bit of a smack in the face.
View from the room was horrible, so kept the curtains drawn. No drinking water supplied, which I expect in every hotel.
I doubt I will ever return.

Distinctly average

Sadly a hotel that does not live up to its Grand name. Great bar area. Good reception staff, but tired elsewhere.

The rooms are not soundproofed at all and the walls are paper thin. My room had no heating at all. The shower was poor.

Birthday treat

Stayed one night as a birthday treat, to explore the inside of this lovely old hotel, and eat in the restaurant. Had an excellent time. Room spacious, clean and comfortable for such an old property. Stylish décor. Wonderful food and excellent staff. Night time street noise, but we were expecting that, so no nasty surprises.

Worst hotel experience of my life!

Alice P on 14/11/2017 23:10

The worst hotel stay I have ever experienced! We were kept awake until 4:00am due to various parties going on at the hotel. We were offered our money back at 3:00am, but this was refused when we went to check out the next morning. The rooms are cramped, musty and not sound proofed. We have contacted the hotel three times to discuss our stay, and they have refused to get back in contact with us.

Avoid this hotel at all costs - truly the worst experience I have ever had of a hotel and terrible customer service/complaint resolution.
