We stayed here for one night on a Friday evening a couple of weeks ago. The actual stay was fine, although we were right on the end of a long corridor and our room was quite dark. However my main bugbear started with opening the door after check in. We got to the hotel at 10pm and the room was really cold. I mean guys ... it's November. What's with the open window?! We literally had come from our night out wanting to go pretty much straight to bed and we were both freezing and had to wear extra clothes in bed. That was a simple thing that would've made our stay so much better. Hotel please note this, it's so important to feel cozy and warm in winter! The main reason for booking the hotel was convenience to where we had been for the evening and not having to travel far and have a comfy bed. The beds were amazingly soft and I did get a decent night's sleep after I'd warmed up. For me, generous as I am normally with my ratings, this has knocked 2 stars off something that would've otherwise been a flawless stay. We did not have breakfast at the hotel the next morning but found an excellent eatery nearby. Staff at the Mercure were very pleasant and we managed to extend check out for an extra hour with no problems. Shame about the cold room because otherwise a problem free stay.

During my 2 day stay, I had no wifi for 28 hours and intermittent wifi for the remainder of the stay which made my business trip virtually impossible. I couldn't eat pre paid breakfast on both mornings due to struggling with business emails on 4G.
Refund was not given for breakfasts, only a 10% discount was refunded on 1 night's stay.

The only plus size with the hotel is it’s location and the £10 buffet breakfast.. Our room was so dark and incredibly cold. The bathroom was not well thought out in terms of how the space had been used-the bath plug didn’t work and only a side of the automatically lit mirror would come on. No extractor fan so the whole space filled with steam. The windows were covered in mound from where there is a lack of ventilation. If the window was opened the people in the flats opposite could see straight in. You also had a strong smell of cooking bacon-not what I want on my clothes. Marco’s restaurant is average to say the least and not worth the £70 we paid for 2 people. Our waiter was affable and we felt sorry for him dealing with the various complaints from different tables-one vegetarian pizza had meat in it. Hmm go figure... The most annoying part is it took 3 emails to the hotel to request they lift the huge pre-authorisation they’d taken at check in. The hotel certainly isn’t worth in excess of £200 a night. Next time we will forgo location for a much nicer hotel.

A simple question could lead into huge improvements.. If you're in the restaurant with 3 other guests seated, and it takes the waiter to come back with negative info about your selection not being available, then another 10 for the next option that holds products to which you are allergic.. And this happens twice more.. The mood is set. Turns out: There's only one salad possible..
No fridge in the room. Can't keep my products cooled.
Wifi totally does not stand near any quality level you expect from a hotel. Wifi drops in the restaurant/bar in and out. Constantly have to re-authenticate in hotel room as well.
Thin walled, especially very annoying when your neighbours seem to be deaf and need telly on max.
Running out of products for breakfast (few days in a row) and not solving those by buying it from supermarket next door, and merely replying with 'sorry, wish I could do something for you' really makes your start of the day one you are so not looking forward to.
My total overall experience in comparison to other hotels I visit.. never be back again here.

friendly warm welcome, staff could not be more pleasant and accommodating. we have stayed a number of times and always received same welcome, which is why we return.
we arrived in the morning and left our bags at reception, they had been placed in our room when we returned. we were asked if we wished to leave our bags the following day.
good location easy walk to Soho, Chinatown, Covent Garden and theatres
