We stayed for 2 nights here in sep 2017. The hotel was nice and rooms were lovely good size- bed very comfortable and big. The only down side was the hotel was about 25 mins away from the centre so it would cost about £15 in a Taxi. We had our car so wasn’t too bad but something to consider if you don’t drive as there isn’t public transport near.

Stayed at the Mercury George Washington on another trip to the local Nissan Sunderland
plant. Once again the stay was pleasant and comfortable Quite rooms with excellent facilities. Friendly and helpful staff on the front desk, restaurant and house keeping.

We stayed here for a wedding evening reception on 11th Nov, and this hotel is definitely not 4 star, more like 2. The hotel itself is very dated, and our room must have been the darkest dingiest room in the hotel. Everything in the room was tatty, decor was totally eightees. We had 1 towel to share...... no heating, we had to ask reception if they were putting the heating on, as the whole of the hotels radiators wern't on, she did however give us a portable fan radiator. This hotel has a spa, but didn't supply things like slipper and gowns as you would expect for a 4 star.
We had a quick bite in the hotels snack bar, that did pizzas etc, the prices are a bit of a rip off, example £3.75 for the smallest portion of chips.
Breakfast was self serve buffet, but for some reason this hotel insists on supplying you with saucer sized plates........... you litteraly cannot fit anything on these plates. The hot breakfast selection was a little luke warm.
The only good points are the staff that we dealt with were friendly enough, the girl on reception was very helpful and the girl in the snack bar, and next day saw her at breakfast and she was very pleasant also.
Probably wouldn't say here again.

I was staying in the hotel while attending an intense week long health and safety course. I stayed from Sunday through to Friday and never had the need to leave building for the six days as everything I needed was catered for. The food in the Carter & Fitch smokehouse was excellent as was breakfast and lunch in the Orangery. The hotel and room were clean and the rooms very generous in size. Overall a good stay and would most definitely return for social purposes.

Stayed at this hotel with friends for the 1 night. Was such a nice stay with everything available for a comfortable stay. Free parking, wifi, tea coffee in the room, iron in the room. The beds were so comfortable and a number of pillows to choose. The bathroom was a nice size and not squeezed like some. Shower was also powered which is always nice. I recommend to opt in for the breakfast, there is so much variety available you wouldn't need lunch. The service was great too, everyone is so helpful and pay attention to your needs. It was a perfect stay!
