A very good hotel. The room was comfortable and quiet. There was a plentiful supply of all necessary toiletries, tea and coffee. The staff were pleasant and professional. The highlight of the hotel was the restaurant, serving delicious evening meals.

'just adequate'

we had an overnight stay, which necessitated a town center location which was excellent, the room however was a similar size to that of one of her majesty's pleasure establishments and looked as though an incompetent diy enthusiast had been at work some years ago, the breakfast was good though, all in all poor value!

Old Hotel

Great friendly welcome at this centrally located hotel. I get that this
Is an old building with creaky floors and that adds to its charms. I have a real bugbear with mouldy bathrooms, there is no need, it’s so easily remedied! Stayed here a couple of years ago and it was ok, rooms are now tired and in need of some refreshing!.

A Bit of a Maze!

Having been invited to an event aboard a cruise ship in Southampton, I needed to stay for a couple of nights in Southampton. I've been a long-time customer of Accor Hotels, so the Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin seemed the ideal place to stay. It's in the centre (so close to shops and restaurants), but not too far from the docks either. This was my first experience of a Mercure hotel, with a second to follow as I dropped into Salisbury for a night on my way home.

Check-in was swift, but this is the first hotel I've stayed at which has insisted (rather than giving me the choice) I give my card details for an account (I'd pre-paid for the room and didn't intend on using the bar or restaurant).

My room was on the 1st floor (room 141), but once on the 1st floor, I had to navigate my way through multiple doors and down steps to get to my room (it was almost maze-like!).

The room was a nice size. Not large, but not small either. I had plenty of room for my luggage and a good amount of desk space. The room was clean and comfortable.

The bathroom was clean and a good size. However, I had to call services to come and close the window. Try as I might, the old window just wouldn't budge (and I had to stand in the shower to try to close it)! The window was right next to the shower, so with it being open I wasn't going to get the privacy to have a shower. I wasn't impressed that it took 40 minutes for someone to come up to the room, I was just about to call down again when the man arrived. It took him a few minutes and some force to be able to shut the window.

Unfortunately, it took a while to get to sleep and even then my sleep was interrupted. The man in the next room (at the end of the corridor) kept letting his door slam shut and seemed to be in and out of the room between 10am and 1am quite a few times. Then, as my room was overlooking an alleyway, I could hear people chatting and laughing as they walked past.

A great location, but not the standard and service I expected from Mercure.
