What People are saying

Facilities not as described on the Accor website

Located along a narrow lane, easy to miss the entrance as it's only signed from one direction. Good car park, acessible entrance for wheelchair users. Friendly helpful staff. The pool is no longer in use despite still appearing as part of the facility on the website. Bathroom a little dated yet good shower so adequate.

In need of improvement

The staff at this hotel are very nice and friendly but overall the management of the hotel seems to be shambolic. It is not horrendous but manage your expectations if you are planning on staying here.

Reception was slow and unfocused trying to deal with more than one customer at a time and leaving all of them dissatisfied. First rule - close the transaction with your current customer before engaging with another one.

The restaurant service was truly terrible. Nice waiters but they have had no training and came across as school kids doing work experience.

Gin and tonic was served in a cider glass with no ice or slice. Warm and tepid. Simply the worst G&T I have had in a decade.

There was no active service. We sat for 20 minutes before an order was taken. Once taken it took 40 minutes for the main course to arrive. The food was, however, good.

Then when ordering desert it took a further 30 minutes to serve. I watched another table of 12 at the same time and their food was delivered two plates at a time over a period of 30 minutes rather than all together.

Breakfast offer was poor. Plates dirty and hot food not refreshed.

Overall it was like watching an episode of Fawlty Towers. There is a desperate need for someone to establish some proper quality standards and basic training for the staff. I suspect the manager is the source of the problems as the staff were lovely on an individual level if totally lacking in organisational ability and customer service training.

Mattresses in the room were saggy and the shower screen leaked in the bathroom.

very poor service and poor quality food

Visit to Restaurant on wed 1/11/17 to celebrate meeting of old friends and to review food/service for a possible Christmas party.
On entrance taken to to choose a table as only 2 other tables taken, I assume these hotel residents. We are just using the restaurant for a special meal, and not staying at the hotel. We ordered drinks, given no choice of wines available, and my friend asked for Mediterranean tonic, which led to a stare and we only have normal tonic water, which arrived with a lots of ice, which hadn't been asked for, the wine was nice but assume it was a pinot grigio? We ordered the special 3 course -starters which was pate and lovely, however we ordered a steak and were given our meals with no steak knives,,,which is a basic requirement. Ths steaks hadn't been rested and were med rare but had blead all over the plate, We waited 10 min for a steak knife and vinegar and mayonnaise. food practically cold. The chips were large wedges which were not pleasant at all, and certainly not chips. The green salad garnish was brown and wilted - very disappointing. Given that it was a quiet night, I cant imagine what it would be like on a busy night.? When we were asked how our meal was we said we weren't happy and were greeted with a blank expression, from a young man who sadly hasn't been trained in good customer service, which sadly was a mangt issue with the hotel/restaurant. We were told by the waiter that the manager wouldnt come to the table, and thatour bill was at Reception where the manager was waiting for us.
On arrival at \Reception we asked the receptionist, as blonde lady for the bill and the manager and were greeted with "Whats wrong then??" which was very unprofessional..
There was another lady there who we felt like just wanted to argue - about the food issues, then a man appeared presumably the manager, who listened to what we said, and eventually we only paid part of the bill.
In previous years we have held events there for the Cannock Car club, which had been fine, however, I feel very disappointed how the service and quality had deteriorated...,

I hope things improve, with training and attitudes...

Regards

Needs refurbishment and care

Spent a night at this hotel, booked in April because they had a swimming pool. However, when we got there was told it had been closed for a month but room was discounted! Room was just above reception, facing front which seems to have been one of the better rooms. Would of hated to get one with the stained glass windows to hide the bad view at the back. However, this room was Very Very Dark. Also you could hear the music below you upto 12.30 (luckily we went to a wedding elsewhere so was back about 12 but if you wanted to sleep earlier you would have had a problem. It's not to the standard that you expect from Accor and am glad I've been to others otherwise I wouldn't go to their hotels from this example! only 1 towel/toiletries/tea spoon and tea left for us, took 2 hours for the missed items to appear (after 2 phonecalls). Part of curtain was off the rail but we fixed this ourselves, at least check the rooms before you let guests stay. Breakfast was nice but then only 6 rooms were used that night. I wonder why??

Mixed feelings

When we arrived for our one nights stay the reception manager couldn't find our booking, granted the person who took the booking had spelt it wrong but our name is pretty unique so it shouldn't have been hard to find. We got to our room which was a nice size and clean. The bed was comfortable but the room was on a slope which made it feel like you were going to slide out all night. There was a kettle to make drinks but we had to find it. The bathroom wasn't as clean as the bedroom, there was only one bath towel between the two of us and for reasons I can't fathom the toilet roll holder was behind the toilet! The bar was quite expensive which is normal for hotels. Our biggest complaint was the noisy pipework, every time we or anyone else flushed the toilet or turned on a tap the noise was horrendous! The breakfast went some way to redeem this as it was lovely. Overall a very mixed stay.
