What People are saying

A spacious, comfortable room in a great location, making for a pleasant stay

jmbjrb on 14/11/2017 02:53

We stayed in one of the rooms in the back. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and pleasant and the bed had a good mattress. We appreciated that bathrobes were included even though we didn't use them, and also that a continental breakfast was included. The location was great -- within walking distance to the harbor, downtown and a little over a mile to the Aquarium. If you don't want to walk, on the weekends you can catch a trolley at the corner that will take you to Cannery Row. Caution: the wi-fi connection can be flaky. One evening out of the three we couldn't get on and no one answered at the front desk when I called to inquire.

Musty in Monterey

This Inn was in a central location but our room was tired musty and in need of deep cleaning and updating. The mattress was lumpy and the linens were threadbare. Spacious high beam ceiling on 2nd floor and garden balcony were a plus, but didn’t make up for carpeting so soiled it looked like a science project. A sign warning of additional charges for damaging already chipped, torn and worn furnishings was ironic and unwelcoming.

Lovely place, great service

We didn't pre-book, just rolled in and asked for a room for 1 night on our road trip down the Cabrillo Highway. Got a lovely spacious room on the 1st (2nd US) floor. Clean, comfortable, well equipped and upgraded for free (which was nice). Breakfast the next morning was simple but excellent. Hotel well located for town centre or a short walk to the bay, wharf, and Cannery Row.

Lovely

Very nice stay. Very nice large room with very comfortable beds and pillows. We really enjoyed the with shared balcony overlooking the garden area, very nice for morning coffee and evening cocktail. Perfect location for us - we wanted something in town and close to the Fisherman's Wharf, just 3 minutes away. Refrigerator in the room, large flat screen tv, and nice clean bathroom. Breakfast area slightly small, but workable with overflow of guests. Overall we were very happy and will return.

Allright but better choices exist

This is rather an odd place to stay and while not awful by any means, there are better options in this pricey market. It comprises two older buildings and a couple more newer ones in the back. It is not as if one were staying in anything akin to what Richard Henry Dana might have experienced as described in his "Two Years Before the Mast". History is all around in Monterey but not here. I had an upstairs room on a long running balcony with deck chairs to sit out in the mornings or evenings. While quaint, there is no privacy on the balcony, meaning one needs to close and lock the windows at night and close the blinds. This makes one rely on the A/C system rather than getting some fresh air. The room was spacious but old, the bed felt like it was sprung on rather wild springs, and the bath of definitely 1950-60 vintage. It is clean and basically neat but nothing special whatsoever. The breakfast room was small and might well be full depending on when you got there. The breakfast was sufficient but nothing to write home about: two sorts of cereal flakes, some gummy pastries, hard boiled eggs and some fruit along with so-so coffee. Hint: go about 3 blocks to the Paris Bakery on Bonifcacio and have good coffee and wonderful French croissants and more. The parking situation makes spotting aircraft on a carrier deck seem like child's play; good luck if you drive a large truck or SUV as is so common now. With the Marriott just across the street, I feel that for future visits, the Marriott wins hands down for a place in Monterey proper or, if you wish, look in Pacific Grove which is close by and quieter.
