Very friendly and helpful staff who are able to speak english! The hotel rooms are very nice and the location is just in front of the very expensive Crowne Plaza hotel so it can be a very good alternative for people having conferences or meetings there. You can pay by credit card and the rooms are being cleaned every day.
Few drawbacks: the hotel is located at the the 4th floor of a rather ugly building that it is, at first, difficult to spot. All the metro stations are around 15-20 minutes walking distance from it.
An excellent budget accomodation!!!

I went to Moscow for a conference this year (25-30 June 2012) that took place in World Trade Center. This little hostel was in the perfect location 2 minutes walk from the venue. The other hotel within walking distance was only 5 star Crown Plaza that would cost you your kidney. So the location of this hostel was perfect for me!! From that hostel it will take you only 10 min walk to the metro station and from there 10 min to the hart of the city, Red Square. I most certainly will stay there again when I go to Moscow.
It is a bit challenging to find it at first. There is no big sign showing where to go. Basically you need to walk into the little yard in between the two big flat blocks and it will be the second entrance to your right. There you will see a little sign saying MODERN HOSTEL. Do not freak out by the entrance as it is main entrance to all the flats in the block, just get to the second floor and ring the bell. Then you have reached your destination.
The staff is very friendly. The are a bit shy when speaking English, but there was no problems with communication. When we arrived we were served by the lovely lady Eugenia. She helped us a lot with suggestions of how to get where we wanted to go and where to eat. There is a little restaurant in the nearby building that was absolutely wonderful. The food was excellent and the stuff was very friendly. When we were leaving the other reception girl was very kind to help us with the online check-in and printed our boarding passes. The impression I got is that they will go a long way trying to help their guests. If you are nice and polite with them they will be nice and polite with you. So the saying treat others as you want to be treated applies to everything when you are dealing with Russians. So my best advice would be "be nice".
With regards to the hostel facilities they have very decent rooms. Each room has its own shower and toilet. Each room has a TV set, but I didn't use it as there much more interesting things to see in Moscow rather than TV. The decorations are on the budget side and no air-conditioning. However, it you are visiting Moscow to look around this amazing city why would you want to stay in the room anyway.
It can be a little noisy at times during night time and you can hear people walking in the corridor or music, but if you are not a light sleeper that should be fine or alternatively earplugs would solve that little hazard. Also I was staying there during the week time and Friday night only so maybe the noise level would be different if you will be staying over the weekends. The room I was staying in was wright above the other restaurant and in the evening, when they were serving the smell of food was quite strong when opening the window. I got myself a little air-freshener and the problem was solved.
They hostel also has a communal kitchen with very good equipment, so if you want to stay in and cook your own food they have all you need. The other facilities you can use is washing and drying at extra charge. The hostel has communal irons that anyone can use which certainty helps if you attending formal events. I also noticed a hairdriers for communal use, but had my own so cannot say whether they are good or not.
The hostel is entirely non smoking, but people are smoking in the main building corridor or outside, so there is no nasty smell inside.
Conclusively, it is a wonderful little place for budget travelers. You will get what you pay for. The main thing is to be open minded. Do not compare this hostel with the 5 star hotel because it is unfair, but if you compare it to other hostels in Europe in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, London, Rome it is excellent one.
Keep in mind that if you are a picky person who likes spending time inside the hotel room it may not be as satisfying as you want it to be, but if you are an average requirements person who want a clean and decent place to stay and not spend a fortune you will be very pleased with what you get. This little hostel is my number 1 place of stay in Moscow.
