We arrived a little early for our two night stay and our room wasn’t ready. For the first to ever we were offered horse carriage tour of the grounds to pass thetime. Were told it was the one Queen Elizabeth used and the coachman was the third generation of his family o be the coachman at the Palace. The grounds were extensive and well tended and well worth a visit.
Our suite was very large with a large day sitting room, a large bedroom with four poster bed, a large bathroom with towel warmer (??) and a gigantic terrace, which was shared with some other rooms, but we never saw anyone, but then again we never used it.
Service throughout the hotel was of the highest standard, efficient, friendly but not presumptuous. We dined in the hotel on our first night. We wanted to dine in the open air but the three tables were taken, it was no problem, a table was immediately moved and we were still some way from the nearest diners. The setting was wonderful overlooking a fountain, the gardens and a white marble summerhouse in the distance. The food was excellent, although the menu was a little limited. In fact the next night we fined in the sister hotel next door, which has a more extensive Indian menu. Although the food was good, unfortunately it tends to cater for large groups and the noise level was awful, one immediately realised why one was paying the extra for the Palace.
One of the nicest things about this type of hotel in India is once the gates close, one leaves behind the noise and mayhem of outside. In the case of the Nedesar Palace, this happens twice, first gate from outside and second gate from large scale tourism. Inside is perfect peace and tranquility. Quite lovely.
Beautiful people of Nadesar Palace

The hotel is of course stunning, but it is the people who make it truly special. The staff were all very gracious and attentive, and although we were only there for one night, we made many connections I will take with me. A special thank you to Dheeraj for the thoughtful yoga practice in the morning-I was in very good hands. And speaking of hands, Hussain at the Jiva spa has amazing healing hands and I particularly recommend the Champi head massage. Thank you to Padma for arranging everything.
Other people who made our stay special included Nasim, who took the time as part of a carriage ride to introduce us to all the trees, plants and produce growing on the property, and the musicians who both played beautifully and attempted to teach us to play their instruments (even harder than you can imagine).
Overall a beautiful oasis in Varanasi.

Loved it!! Great service-very comfortable. Great staff. Close to old Varanasi but far enough to feel relaxed. Excellent spa treatments!! Very accommodating at the restaurant. And a rose petal bath poured for you at turn down!! Just lovely!
A palace minutes away from the heart of ancient Varanasi

Location of Nadesar palace is pretty close to ancient city of Kashi ( Dashwamedh Ghat). Right from the second we entered we received a welcome experience that can only be expected from an old place like Nadesar palace, with a Pandit clad in saffron and in a booming voice chanting mantras with pomp and a girl smiling putting a garland.
While we waited for our Id's to get scanned Shubhangi was nice enough to give us a brief story of this ancient palace it's place in history and the legend associated with it's name. She seemed well versed and being a local knew a quite about the local area.
I was definitely awed by the grandeur of my room, 'The Benaras suite' . What stood out in the room were the retro switches that they were still using, and their beautiful bathroom. I'm a 6'3" guy and it makes me particularly happy to see a big bathtub, Overall the room had a very old otherworldly charm attached to it.
After that I left for a visit to ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple's aarti, that pooja ceremony on the holy ganges with thousands of spectators is a beauty in itself. Observing that aarti on ganges was like witnessing the soul of the universe itself in motion and is definitely a must if you're coming to Nadesar .
When I returned back the hotel for dinner I noticed the two musicians serenading on Sitar & Tabla in the dinner area, Their names were Mishras but what stood out was, once they were done performing I engaged them in a conversation and boy they were they proud of their heritage. It was nice to see how happy they were in giving me a short history lesson on old Banarasi music.
Next day The breakfast spread is short and sweet with a live flutist and options are on a la carte. In the afternoon Palash was eager and helpful in arranging a short ride on their 180 year old horse carriage and then a nice game of golf on their lawns.
Overall, Nadesar Palace is a beutiful place to stay if you are a history buff and wants to stay in a hotel which has courted people from Mountbatten to Nehru to Indian monarchs, and before I finish don't forget to try their evening tea experience in which they serve hot Indian chai in local kulhad cups, while you overlook multiple peacocks in their gardens.
