Poor communication in response to complaint

253tor on 14/11/2017 17:23

We encountered various problems whilst staying at this hotel in July. We raised these with the manager on departure and, after a long conversation, were promised a partial refund. However, we have not received it. The hotel itself stopped replying to our emails after we told them this, and Novotel have failed to respond to the contact form that we filled out on their website. There does not appear to be any correspondence address for Novotel/Accor Hotels centrally; only a phone number which incurs additional charges. If anyone from Novotel is reading this and could please tell us how this problem can be addressed, we would appreciate it.

Where to start? If you're unlucky enough to be in a room near the end of a hallway the WiFi is poor to the level of being unable to connect on some devices (perfect in reception...). You would think that the solution to this problem is a no-brainer - install another access point - however these cost money so let's not do that... The performance of the aircon in the room was truly woeful - I would recommend running a fan over a bowl of cold water instead as a more effective cooling option... Breakfast would be more aptly described as a "food fight" - us versus the bus tour groups staying overnight who descend like a pack of noisy magpies on a deadline (with a huge scene of destruction left behind when they leave). The very limited number of breakfast room staff were totally overwhelmed to the point of not caring any more. We experienced the most haphazard room cleaning we have ever seen - a facecloth left on the shower floor and toiletries not replaced, etc. It was a lottery as to what we would find when we returned to our room at the end of the day. I could go on but you get the picture. It appears that this hotel is run by accountants and it's the perfect hotel for bus tour groups and corporate stays (ie a large volume of room bookings at a cheap price and as you don't have to deal directly with the staying guests you don't have to care about the overall standard too much...). Our friends stayed at the Grand Hotel next door and it was much better & cheaper - I wish we had too...

Good location

We had selected superior rooms for our 4 night stay and, although inward facing, were very nicely appointed with a Nespresso machine and a kettle, great for tea drinkers! I do wonder though, why a hotel of this quality, supplies the smallest, cheapest paper cups it could possibly buy for their rooms? Prior to leaving the UK we stayed in a Travelodge, a very cheap hotel brand, but which supplies nice china mugs in the rooms. Anyway, on return to our room on the 2nd night we realised the air con wasn't working and that there was a very unpleasant smell from the sink. Reception were surprised about the smell, but only when I said we were on the second floor; apparently it happens on the 3rd floor usually! We were offered the room next door but upon entering discovered the smell was twice as bad! Even the staff member wrinkled his nose! By now, with the window open, the smell had dissipated but the air con still would not function. We were promised an engineer the next day. Returning the next day the a/c was still not working. I had to go to reception – why didn't they tell me on the way past? – and was told it was a serious problem that could not be fixed. Long story short, we got a new room, but obviously had to move everything ourselves. Apart from that not a bad Novotel. It's just across the road from the city walls, so an easy stroll to the sights. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again, which says it all really!

Solid quiet hotel near to centre

Tomas V on 29/10/2017 15:15

I liked-
- no noise during nights
- hotel is near to centre
- hotel has terrace inside of hotel with pool

I did not understand to heating policy. In the end of October heating did not work. I asked on reception. The reason was, that last week was too hot. And I got from hotel small heating convector...

Nicolai is the best!

Marcia G on 24/10/2017 16:32

From the minute I called the hotel to find out about parking, I knew we made the right choice. When we arrived Nicolai recognized my voice and was very welcoming. He was working alone in a very busy front desk, but he took the time the help us with restaurant and tour recommendations. He is absolutely an asset to this clean and modern hotel. My husband and I usually like to stay closer to the action, the hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the restaurants, but is an excellent value and the room are large and comfortable. And the staff is amazing.
