This hotel is really well situated if you want to visit either Oakland or San Francisco. Walking to the Jack London Pier (and then take the ferry to San Francisco) does not take you longer than 10-15 minutes and the BART is only five minutes away from the hotel.
Staff is extremely friendly and always positive - I am incredibly impressed when I go to the reception at three in the morning to complain about my neighbors - see below - and the whole staff is friendly, chirpy and in a good mood.
Hotel rooms are nice, unfortunately quite thin walls; when we stayed there the guys in the room next door decided to have a major party, and we heard all the gory details - complaining and calling security did not help at all. But the rooms are quite large, we had enough space for all our stuff and we had a very nice view over the bay, so that is recommended.
The breakfast is not too cheap, but they have a real nice selection of yoghurts and mueslis and on the one day we took the breakfast there we basically ate all of their yoghurts.
The area is not too bad and not too good, you might think twice if you want to walk around at night. Just around the corner is a major supermarket and a couple of breakfast shops with nice selections.
Parking at the hotel is quite expensive (45 $ per day), but at least on does not need the car during the day, due to the central location of the hotel.

I really like this hotel after the remodel a year ago. This is my top choice when I come out for Dreamforce because it is so close the the BART station. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Their lounge is very nice as well. My only complaint is the AC unit. I'm hoping not all of the rooms have this issue, but the vent was right above the thermostat. The AC would only run for a minute or two since the cold are was coming out right above the thermostat. This made the room rather warm even though I had the AC set to low. I would stay here again.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a conference. I thought the rooms (at least the one I stayed in) were really nice. They seem to have been recently refurbished. I had no issues with internet or television (referring to other reviews I read here on TA). All staff that I encountered were friendly and helpful (though wait time at check in and out at the front desk were longer than average). I liked that the hotel was right by a BART station and that you could walk to multiple restaurants in the Old Town Oakland area. It is not a five star hotel (few are), but is a solid 4. I recommend it for those who have meetings in the adjacent convention center or business in old town Oakland.

From check in to check out, the service was stellar. I stay at Marriott when I travel and typically, i am pleased. But this time, i was impressed. The agent at the desk was extremely friendly and helpful where the agent on the phone a few days before was not. My sister and i were provided an amazing room. The food and service at the restaurant was also impressive. Ask for James! I would stay here again.

I do an annual football pilgrimage to Berkeley and find this hotel to be ideal. It’s a three stop BART ride to downtown Berkeley. Rooms are great, clean and updated. Restaurant is excellent. Lots of Ubers running around even at 4:00 AM which is when I left for my 6:00 AM flight.
