I recently had a three-night stay at Oaks Lexicon apartments. I'd booked a one-bedroom apartment on the strength of on-line reviews and the photographs of the property. The experience was really quite underwhelming.
The check-in experience was quite cold, with the primary focus being the pre-authorisation of the room rate and a security bond, rather than any welcome as such or information about the property.
The apartment itself was disappointing. The furniture and fixtures were pretty utilitarian; the sofa was uncomfortable, and overall the space was tired and dated. The website photos are flattering.
The bedroom had an good-sized en-suite attached to it. The only problem with that was that fact that it was bolted shut with a domestic style window lock. There was no explanation for this odd arrangement.
There was a bathroom off the kitchen. This was a very cramped and dank space. You could not open the bathroom door and access the toilet without closing the bathroom door. There wasn't enough room to get changed after a shower. There was no natural light in the bathroom and the lighting was poor. The sink was so small that there was nowhere to store the bits and bobs you travel for shaving, make-up etc.
What passed for room service was towels being replaced and the doona being haphazardly pulled up at an odd angle. On both days the my partner and I laughed at how the bed had been made. It looked like a four-year-old had bounced on it.
There was Foxtel box in the apartment, but, frustratingly, none of the channels that I would watch (e.g. CNN) were available. I couldn't connect to the Internet. When I raised this at reception I was told to ring the third party provider, which I did. I logged in I noticed that the 'free' Internet was for 30 minutes only. 24 hours' of Internet was $18. I ended up hotspotting my phone. Every local cafe can deliver free WiFi, but a commercial accommodation provider can't.
The dishwasher had a foul smell, presumably from not being cleaned for some time.
When we checked out the focus was again on the confirmation of payment. Not a word was exchanged about our experience of staying at the property. This was the capstone for me: a tired and dated property with the Fort Knox en-suite, and staff who really didn't seem to care.

Reception staff was welcoming and location is good, it is close to the train and woollies. However my room in particular did not seem to be very clean so I will probably be picking a different place for my next visit.

The staff are very friendly even called after checking in to see if all was OK. Rooms lovely and tidy good size kitchen and great views of the city and great balcony. Nice and close to train station and Queen st mall

The apartments are very spacious and tidy. Only two minutes walk to Central Station and five minutes walk to the Queen Street Mall so the hotel is conveniently situated.
The bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in!
Parking is available for an extra cost of $25 per night.
Friendly, efficient staff.

Apartments were perfect for the purpose of our visit a friends daughter's wedding...central to the ceremony and reception. Location was walking distance to good cafes and city hotspots.Staff were most helpful with any of our requests.
