My Husband and I have just returned for a stay at Old Downtown Lodge. From the minute we arrived we knew we had found somewhere special, it's absolutely beautiful
Tucked away, this accommodation is immaculate, cosy and the staff are friendly and helpful but not intrusive.
We were given details of local walks which we really enjoyed.
We opted for 6 course taster for dinner in the evening, food, wine and service was first class.
Would definitely recommend and would certainly stay longer next time !

Spent an excellent night here. Made very welcome when we arrived and our room was excellent. The lounge area has a wood burner and is converted from the old stables. Had the six course taster menu which was superb. We like taster menus because you get to try things you wouldn't normally have. Also an excellent full English Breakfast with plenty of choice

This place describes itself as a restaurant with rooms but we stayed with another couple for 2 nights on a B&B-only basis. The staff were welcoming and the rooms are essentially barn conversions, extremely stylishly and impressively done. Breakfast comprised a comprehensive buffet with the usual hot options to order but my portion of smoked haddock was minute although accompanied by two poached eggs. More fish and only one egg would have been so much better! There is an extremely comfortable lounge and bar area and we would have liked to have eaten in the restaurant on at least one evening, but there is no ordinary restaurant menu, merely two expensive tasting menus and an only slightly cheaper market menu, none of which appealed. This was a big disappointment but if you want B&B and don't mind the fairly remote location, this place cannot be beaten and we certainly don't rule out returning.

We stayed here only one night in September to break up a long journey from Manchester to Cornwall and back. I wish we had stayed in this underrated part of the country and saved several hours driving. The accommodation was of the highest quality in one of the buildings making up the property and it is clear that no expense was spared in its design and build. Oddly, I have no clear recollection of breakfast and so assume it was OK/good or I would remember. Their speciality is the tasting menu which we did not go for as i was not in the mood for a very expensive meal with matching wine for each course. But we were in the bar when another couple were being invited to their table by a fawning waiter (though I don't suppose he would describe himself as that) with "would you like to take your table for your eating and drinking experience". A bit creepy . We went instead to Pizza Express in Ludlow, very pretty town, but by no means near. It's several miles through winding lanes so make sure you know the way back. Before departing we had a long walk in the country using a map kindly supplied at the desk. We would definitely return.

Beautiful biudings in an idyllic setting. We stayed for one night on a secret escape deal. The accommodation was superb and we were very well looked after. I would highly recommend a visit and would hope to return.
