    What People are saying

    Excellent location

    MitchMicahandKaykay on 23/07/2017 04:18

This is also named Holo hostel, one of the cheapest and best value for your money. Title says it all. Excellent location. Whether you are taking the airport MRT or express airport bus, its accessible location makes it very easy especially with luggage. It's initially confusing, upon booking, Holo will give you more detailed instructions on how to find them. I just remembered Z2 exit and Shin Kong department store exit and just followed the signs. Upon exiting the stairs the building is right in front of the stairs. #50 and have to go to 22nd floor and turn right. The office/breakfast area is in the corner. Upon exiting the elevators, you will have an awesome birds eye view of Taipei. We took the airport bus to Taipei main station which was around NT$115 with children paying a much cheaper fare. So around $3.50-4. Leaving the bus stop I was confused to what direction to go, so I went inside the station and got lost inside the immense structure. But remember the exit Z2 shin kong department store and you will find the way. We tried to breakfast the first day and never went back again. It's basic breakfast. Toast with the usual butter, jam and peanut butter. Some rice soup with multiple ingredients you can add on which I thought was good. But in Taipei, 2 toasted egg sandwich and 2 milk tea costs less then $5 I think I can skip the breakfast at Holo. Wash your own used plates and utensils, the breakfast area is tiny so more than 3 people trying to get to the food is tight. We were on the 24th floor, after midnight there are only certain elevators that work and you need the electronic pass key attached to your key ring or else the elevator wont work. The lower floors have several restaurants and the upper floors are residential. Might seem a little depressing while walking the open corridors but remember, you are not here to lounge in your room but to go out and explore. So, if you are expecting concierge, English channels and a bellhop, look somewhere else and pay more. This is not the place. At least they were honest with the TV. There's a printed instruction on how to operate the TV and it also says there, "If the TV works, then use this remote to change channels". I didn't come to Taiwan to watch TV, but sometimes after a long day of sightseeing, just want to turn on the TV to wind down, and like the instruction said, if the TV works...most of the time it just shows blurry pictures and static. Might be a good idea to get at least one English news channel. Wi-Fi was good. The password is actually posted near your door. AC was excellent and working well. Clean room. Also a guest mentioned that the towels they give out are more like hand towels. Might be a good idea to bring your own. Again, cannot stress enough that the location is excellent and all 4 days we just used the metro and bought the easy pass card and just kept loading money into it.

    Strategic Location

    celinefeline on 11/07/2017 07:30

Holo Hostel is located strategically right in front of the Taipei Main Station. When you exit the building, the elevator leading to the underground of the MRT station is literally a few seconds walk. The hostel is located inside this commercial/residential building which would make it rather difficult to locate if you're looking for signs outside leading to Holo. The rooms are very basic at best, though they are quite spacious (we got the one for 3 people), with it's own bathroom, hot water, TV, hair dryer, fridge, water kettle, and a long desk. Our room even offers a view of the Taipei 101 Tower. The reception is located on a different floor and this is also where you get to have free breakfast (some toast, congee, coffee, tea, cold cuts and a bunch of other stuff). We were also allowed to store our luggage before check in and after check out so we had more time to explore the city.

Recommended for backpackers and solo travellers

    Stayed here for 4 nights.
The rooms are small with no wardrobe, telephone and tv. There are free snacks, tea and coffee available throughout the day, but no laundromat machine. The minus point is you have to wash your own cups, plates and utensils after use.
    .
Security is quite good as there is a guard counter at the building's main door and CCTVs along the corridor to the rooms.

It's biggest plus point is its location with lots of underground passages linking to the Main station opposite. On it's right is a big shopping center and on its left is Caesar Palace hotel with a Japanese food street underground linking to the Subway station. That area is a food and shopping haven.

    Simply, one glorious night

So, yes, this "hostel" is on the 22nd floor of a shopping mall. While the hostel's official directions ask you to look for the "Asia Plaza" between the Caesar Park Hotel and the Shin Kong Building, the big sign out front says "WutuAkiba Mall", so just take exit M6 from Taipei Main Station and keep your eyes peeled.

Check in, the common area and breakfast are all on the 22nd floor. Your room probably won't be, but that makes the mall's elevators a good thing. Staff's English is passable but, please, do try out your Chinese, if you know any. The WiFi is free. It's open on the 22nd floor but password protected on the rest. Do ask for the password.

The room is simple. Reminded me of a college dorm. No living room, just three bedrooms, each with a locking door, and a shared bathroom. My room did have a sink. I guess to prevent one tying up the bathroom if all they need to do is shave or brush their teeth.

Breakfast was simple too. Instant coffee, hot chocolate or milk tea; sugar and non-dairy creamer; congee and various toppings; bread for toasting and spreads (butter, jam and peanut butter).

I only stayed here one night, but I definitely want to stay here again. This is the place to stay for a simple place to rest your head when you're not out and about. Not fancy, but just the essentials.

    1) near to taipei main station - very easy to find with the direction given, just opposite taipei main station (see the tall brown building next to caesar hotel)
    2) excellent location - easy to travel to
keelung, jiufen, shifen, yeliu (with the bus, train, high speed train, local train at Taipei main station)
    3) room practical and simple - do not expect hotel design
    4) toiletries - bath gel and shampoo available in bathroom (also have a bathtub)
    5) room size for 4person and 5luggages - spacious
    6) breakfast provide - bread (jam, butter), chinese porridge, green bean soup available - simple but sufficient to start the day.
    7) friendly staff- they use Wechat and Line App to correspondence as the room we stay is at another floor
    8) have a huge weight scale (very good for shoppers like us who worried about overweight of our luggages)

    dislike -
    1) the bath towel is too thin - more than face towel...

our opinion on this area - we find the beauty products (at the shops around this area) like face mask, cleanser, lip mask slightly cheaper than other location...
also food - not much variety and many shops do not have table and chairs for us to eat there, they cater more to takeaway
