Otro Lado is a great choice at a good price, very close to Santa Teresa beach. In fact, I would have given it 5 stars, was it not for a few minor issues.
But first the positives: the room was spacious and very comfortable and the bathroom modern and clean. My room had a fan as well as aircon, although it wasn't necessary to use the aircon very often. The rooms are cleaned daily, but sheets and towels not necessarily changed according to the information that they provide. Not a problem if you're fairly neat and clean. The gardens are beautiful and the pristine swimming pool a lovely place to relax. The staff are (mostly) friendly and helpful and the included breakfast quite adequate without being a culinary highlight. There is a wide selection of restaurants and shops in the area, and it is easy to get to other areas of Santa Teresa or Mal Pais. The staff are able to assist with onward travel arrangements.
On the not so positive side, the wifi was really terrible in the room, with connectivity only very early in the morning. It was fine in the common areas though.
One suggestion after my stay would be to place guests not participating in yoga training/retreats away from the yoga shala, as it can be pretty intrusive, seeing as the yoga training starts early in the morning and ends late in the evening.
Another suggestion would be to have drinking water available to fill drinking bottles, even if guests had to pay for this. It seems that if you say that you are conscious about the environment, you would assist in minimising the use of plastic in this simple way.
Lastly, as this is the quiet season in this part of the world, it is understandable that this would be the time to undertake renovations. But let guests know when to expect building noise. It was frustrating to try and relax at the hotel with constant hammering and drilling going on and communicating with guests is an easy way of keeping clients happy.
Overall though, a lovely stay and I would definitely choose Otro Lado again.

It was my first time to Playa Santa Teresa. Otro Lado Lodge is set back from the main road that runs parallel to the beach. It's a quite little oasis that has clean rooms, swimming pool, pretty landscaping and a relaxing area where breakfast is served. Breakfast has a nice selection and is good quality. For the price and location, it's a great place to stay. FYI, you need to cross the road to get to the beach. There's a beach entrance nearby so the walk is just a few minutes and the beach is wide and beautiful.

Clean rooms with minimalistic decor and patio opening onto balcony/garden/decked area. Hosts were very helpful. Breakfast delicious. Pool perfect for refreshing dip to escape heat! Location was 3-5min walk to the beach.

A must stay when in Santa Teresa. The hotel is super relaxing with beautiful tropical trees and buddhas watching you as you walk through the grounds. The owners are very very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend anyone to stay here as its a paradise heaven for all. We will most definetly be back again!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Otro Lado. They make you feel like family in this super-friendly lodge run by europeans. The included breakfast every day is amazing as well as lunch that you can order in the restaurant. All the food is fresh and tastes home-made. The vibe is super chill - there are hammocks outside the rooms to relax in, a pool, and it's a close walk to a lot of restaurants and bars. The beach is a 3 minute walk and you can rent surf boards directly next to the hotel or on the walk to the beach. I recommend getting an ATV for a couple of days to zip around town and visit neighboring locations. Otro Lado staff was super helpful in helping us book restaurant reservations, trips and transportation. The rooms are charming and clean. Could not recommend this place enough!
