What People are saying

A nice hotel with large rooms

OwMaH on 28/02/2017 20:06

Large well apportioned rooms, very professional staff, a good location (a very short walk to 'town' center) and a lovely terrace.

I would say that noise does seem to carry between the rooms, particularly vertically, probably on account of the wooden floors and beams.

Breakfast was meagre on the one morning although this is likely due to the out of season time of the visit.

Nice little hotel

We showed up without a reservation after deciding not to stay in Catania. The building is lovely and the front desk staff were very accommodating. We asked to see every size room and finally settled on the suite. It was large and comfortable. Internet and hot water worked fine and breakfast was included in the cost. The restaurant is not open otherwise. Parking is on the street and sometimes difficult but not impossible. Augusta doesn't have much to offer, but it is close to Siracusa, so we spent a day there. If you get stuck in SE Sicily, consider this an option to spend a couple of days.

Could be better

The hotel is clean and the staff very pleasant and helpful. I only stayed one night. I had a problem with the toilet flush water which was partially solved, as every time I flushed the water kept coming out.
Then there was the shower, the drIn was very slow and there was no hot water. The hot water was not much of a problem as the water was tepid and I managed to get a shower. I believe that the hotel could do with a little maintenance.

The building is beautiful and the Staff were very nice.

I have stayed here a couple of times on business and for a short stay it is a nice hotel. I love the ambiance of the building. The biggest disadvantage of this hotel is if you are driving there is NO private parking. You need to be lucky to find a space free as there is only the one way street in front of the hotel. I would recommend a small car as the street is not that big. Hey, It's century old Augusta. The hotel is not that hard to find either.

The hotel is a restored old building whose character is Beautiful. The rooms I stayed in are large but basic. The bed was comfortable enough and the bathrooms were fine. The showers are a bit small for my liking but worked fine with plenty of hot water. Each room has an individual AC unit for both Heating and Cooling. I stayed in the winter and the room was cold until the heating got going. The only amenities were the TV and WiFi. There was a room service menu but I never tried it.

If your room is on the upper levels then you will need to carry your bags as I did not see any elevator. Personally for me that was not a big issue. If you have problem with stairs it could be.

They have free WiFi put it was hit and miss both times I stayed there. Which was only a problem if you were streaming video, FaceTiming or Skype calling. The hotel wasn't that busy so I felt it should have been better.

The Restuarant was not open either time I was there but there are a couple nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The breakfast in the morning was a typical European style with café, croissants, affittato, yogurt, etc.... Nothing special but ok.

The staff at reception and for breakfast were SUPER polite and helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily and everything worked as expected (except for the WiFi).

I wouldn't use this hotel as a base to see the area from but for a short 1/2 day stay it is a nice place.

Beautiful building, very disappointing service and amenities

I was in Augusta on a business trip and I arrived at the hotel on a Sunday evening (1800) after a very long day of travelling and without having had a decent meal for the previous 24 hours. You can imagine my disappointment when the person on the front desk told me the restaurant was closed. There wasn't even a scrap of food anywhere in the hotel. To add insult to injury, the front desk clerk couldn't even recommend a restaurant or a take-away, or even a petrol station! She then said it was her first night - okay, everyone has a first night...

The hotel room was satisfactory and spotlessly clean. The TV was difficult to use and it wasn't possible to change the menu language into English. The only English TV channel was BBC News. The hotel had a wireless internet facility which wasn't free (5 euros for 24 hours) but reasonably priced. The connection wasn't very good and I think I managed about 20 minutes use before I finally gave in and switched the laptop off!

The minibar was the most disappointing. Two cans of soft drinks and two bottles of water - I couldn't even fill the hunger void with a nice bottle of chilled Italian beer! No food there either - not even a poxy packet of peanuts.

Would I stay here again? Probably, after having stopped at the supermarket first to stock up on food. Would I enjoy it? No.

Caution: The hotel does NOT have an elevator.
