Very pleasant hotel ... Spacious clean rooms ... Great Breakfast Buffet ... Super large Swimming Pool ... and we liked the fact that the hotel was out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre and yet close enough to grab a cheap taxi to go in town :-) ... A lot of attractions available in Dandong ;-)

We were expecting a Crowne Plaza.... and 4.5 star. What we got was no more than a 3 star. Our bar fridge was not working, and after 3 attempts we got someone up. After finally pulling the fridge out she notice it was not plugged in. Result... see #2 photo. Now no where to plug water jug in! After 1 hour it was still not working, barely cool. Never did work, even after another call and another attempt at fixing! Bathroom had mold and also stains from previous mold. See photo #1.
Service in public areas sadly lacking.

Nice enough hotel, with decent facilities. Great to look out of the window across the Yalu River to North Korea. Downtown is quite a stroll away (or a taxi ride). Bar staff were very friendly. Air conditioning is poor, and fridges just don't get cold enough.

Room was a typical room for a Crowne Plaza Hotel, which it was when I went there in 2009.
The restaurant, though was strange. It was one of those Brazilian meat restaurants - all you can eat meat! - just over the river from Sinuiju, North Korea.
One of the two strangest meals I ever had in China. Great food, but the irony...

Apart from the premium price we had to pay for staying in this hotel during the National Day holiday, it was still great: Check-in was smooth without the need for unnecessary delays and the staff were genuinely friendly and always at-hand to help out. They would always stop to ask if we needed any help。 While some were able to converse in simple English, the others simply gestured what we had wanted to know.
The room we had was on a higher floor and offered sweeping views of the Moon Island and the North Korean peninsula. In spite of it being called a Superior Room it was spacious; the bathroom too was spacious and had a good amount of toiletries. Housekeeping, while prompt were attentive and ensured that everything was clean.
The excellent breakfast experience is also worth mentioning as it had a good spread of Chinese, Japanese and English food, that were quickly replenished. My request for an omelette was acceded to, personally by the Executive Chef, who was always seen on the floor - ensuring that everything was working like clockwork. He even sampled food that came right out of the kitchen, before they were placed in their rightful areas - something that I've not seen anywhere else (including 5-star hotels/properties) but I was pleased to have witnessed such dedication to food that was served to guest.
The closeness of the hotel to attractions, like the 'infamous broken bridge', the riverside cruise and all the other local restaurants, meant that we could take casual strolls to these places when we wished.
While not making use of the hotels' facilities such as the Business centre & etc, for which we have given it a good rating, we are still very happy with the choice of staying with the Friend Plaza Hotel Dandong. It has truly left a lasting impression that we now look forward to staying at this hotel once again, and hope to be in Dandong soon.
