What People are saying

good stay

terrierz on 17/11/2017 15:20

Third time here just stayed the one night, room was dated but clean with good shower didnt have breakfast this time as i wasnt impressed the second time we came but all in all a good stay nothing to complain about. Sometimes think that the bad reviews for this hotel area bit harsh.

Girly weekend

Mazza697 on 12/11/2017 21:20

Hotel needs a little TLC but overall it is a really nice hotel. The rooms are large and clean, beds very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. The Christmas decorations were up and 2 lovely coal fires blazing away in the reception area. Some of the staff let the rest of the staff down, especially in the dining room. Some were curt and to some degree quite rude.

Faded Glory but a Great Experience

We spent a couple of days here in early November - The hotel is very centrally situated on Lord Street and just 10 - 20 minutes walk from the sea (depending on the tide which goes out nearly 1 mile!)

Our room was ENORMOUS - some 7 metres x 6 metres - and the shower was the most controllable and powerful I have experienced.

Hotel decor is "from a bygone era" but you cannot escape the overall sense of Grandeur and that this was a VERY top end Hotel - gradually being refurbished I am told but the age of the decor had a certain charm.

Line dance weekend

We had a great weekend. Room was OK. Breakfast was OK. Evening meal was overcooked. Not enough choice of vegetables. Not likely to recommend this hotel for the food. Service was quite good. Self service meals do not work in this hotel

What a sshit hole

John R on 08/11/2017 14:19

LETS START....at the car park where we were met by a load of sick next to the main door and that sick was there for two days while every guest stepped over it.
The reception lounge is fitted out with chairs that I would not let a dog lie on,they were filthy plus four Scots men in a corner swearing like troopers as if there was no one around them to listen & not one of the staff rectified this problem. If you like EFFINF n BLINDING every other word then this is the place for you
They then charged me £4.00 a night for parking so £4.00 x 4 Nights=£16.00 but we used the car the following day & when we came back the Hotel car park was full and not one spare place so we had to park else where and it was full for the rest of our stay and that meant parking money paid to this Hotel (Hotel HA..HA..HA)down the drain as when I told the reception they said they could do nothing as it was a private matter with the parking people so really they did not give a dam.
THE ROOM......we booked was a "Double Executive" well their idea of "Double Executive" is a bit different to mine and their photos on their web site. The windows were rotten and blowing a hell of a draft (it was 5 degrees at night) the furniture was drab old a shabby but not sheek the carpet was stained and filthy the smallest TV I have seen for a long time the teabags were the cheapest and nasty that you could buy, when it was made with milk in,it looked grey & tasted lousy. Lucky there were tea rooms on the shopping front.
THE BED......was cheap and as old as the hills the mattress was so uncomfortable I only slept around 8 hours in three nights plus the room we had number 124 had an adjoining door to the next room which was locked but we could hear their TV through this door till they went to bed and the other side had dogs in the room which yapped and barked.
THE HEATING....did not work and never worked the whole three nights we were there and as I said it was 5 degrees at night in that room and I reported this to the reception each night at about 4pm to no avail they said "its on a timer and will not come on until
5pm" so I waited and waited and reported it again about 7am (each night)but the heating never came on at our stay so we froze while the reception had a big coal fire keeping them nice and warm (so again they did not give a dam).
THE DINNING ROOM........it read on their web site that the evening meal was from 5.30am-7.30am but no it was not there was a sign up in reception that the evening meal would be served between 5.30pm-6.30pm....yes we got one hour each night!!!!!
Off to the dinning room and we were told to sit any where but as we approached a table one of the dinning attendants jested from across the room and said quite loudly "Not there that`s laid out for breakfast" so we had to move table for her convenience.
THE FOOD.......The breakfast was OK as it was a buffet English but don`t expect mushrooms and hash browns or black pudding because you wont get it.
The evening meal as I said you have one hour and don`t expect them to go overboard and give you quality food......the veg was brussel sprouts and red cabbage with some other slop,it was the worse meal I have ever had in any Hotel or Boarding House and the best about it it was self service so you had to queue up with the rest of the unhappy guest but at least you could swap comments while you were being herded round the trough.
We visited the evening meal three times and all I can say is if you want better food than this slop then go to Mcdonalds just up the road, the food did not improve at all but you can have as many cups of the grey coloured as you want as nobody drank it..
We were duo to stay four night but as it was a scruffy room with no heating and 5 degrees and we were herded around the self service slop room we had enough and packed up and left a night early.
We lost out on one evening meal (slop) one nights comfy sleep (HA..HA..HA) and a breakfast (which I said its not bad but not brilliant).
Off we went and glad to go we were too......Called at Mcdonalds on the way home and slept in my Kink size bed with the heating ticking over (BLISS).
THINK TWICE.....before yo stay at this Hotel doss house.....You pays your money and takes your chance (beware you have been warned).
I will be sending an "E" mail to the director of the BRITANNIA HOTELS about my stay in his DOSS HOUSE if you want to do the same you can get the address from Companies House on the webb.
If you come from outside of the UK do not get confused about the name BRITANNIA in the name of the company who own this place and as for naming it "THE PRINCE OF WALES" well they should take that name off.
This Hotel (Doss house) does not represent our GLORIOUS BRITAIN
