Needs Some Work

We stayed at the Protea for a day before our safari and a day after our safari. The hotel was okay; it had a nice location by the lake which provided a cooling breeze and was very close to the airport. The rooms were clean and comfortable but we did not like fact that AC blows right on you while in bed. The pool was very nice, probably one of the best we used during our visit to Uganda. The service was just okay; they had a wine menu but really only had one wine. The rooms, restaurant, and exterior were dated and the hallways were smelly. As many people have said in the reviews here, the best feature of the Protea is the buffet breakfast. It provided a great selection of foods that were well prepared.

Ideal location close to Entebbe International with really good rooms with Lake Victoria as your uninterrupted view. Helpfull staff and fair restaurant - new menu options are going to be worth trying. Big enough to have all the mod-cons but with a nice boutique feel.
Great view of Lake Victoria and very quiet, despite being at airport.

Very friendly staff and a beautiful location with views of the lake. Close to the airport (but believe it or not, you can't hear it) and a pleasant walk into town. The breakfast was fantastic, the pool was very nice, and the gym was okay for our family, but did not have enough functioning equipment for more than us. My husband travels a lot for business so we stayed here with Marriott points--a very good deal that included breakfast and a room that overlooked Lake Victoria. On check in there was a problem because Marriott apparently did not include our son on the reservation and 3 are not allowed in one room. We had to wait a long time to get approval to get our room, which we were told would be an extra $40 a night for our son to share our bed and eat breakfast and use a towel. At check-out, the fee was waived, probably because of my husband's frequents stays. We greatly appreciated the gesture, but it would have been nice if this was dealt with at the beginning because we arrived in Entebbe after 2 days of flying. Overall we would definitely stay here again, and this was the second time we stayed at a Protea in Africa. Another nice touch was the free shuttle from the airport. Lastly, the lake flies were bizarre!!! Billions and billions, but don't worry, they don't bite, and with the wind they go away.
In Need of a Renovation

We spent 1 night here as a Lifetime Platinum member with Marriott. Used 7500 points for the stay which was a really good deal. We were given an upgrade to a Suite - Room 114.
There was an in room safe however, no slippers. WIFI was provided and it was complimentary. There is a wall unit for AC but when we adjusted the temperature down, it didn't seem to cool the room so it was a bit hot.
Overall the room was adequate but the bathroom really needs updating.
I notified the hotel prior to arrival via email so we could get pick up at the Entebbe airport. After going through immigration and going through Baggage Claim, go outside and there will be a person in a yellow shirt with a Protea sign. We did have to wait until everyone was present before we could leave. The hotel is only a few minutes from the airport.
Breakfast the next morning was buffet. There is an egg cooking station where you can order eggs to your liking. Overall food was average - nothing special.
Overall the hotel was fine except for the dated bathroom.
Disappointing in almost every way

We stayed here night before our departure. Our experience with every other hotel we stayed during our two weeks of doing in country volunteer work was awesome. Unfortunately that good experience ended when we arrived here. Very small room with views of maintenance area behind hotel. Wifi service was terrible. Our request for one hour later checkout was denied. Would not stay here again.
