    Good on parts

Lots of different reviews about this hotel but I chose it for the closeness to Darwin City centre and the nice pool and was not disappointed. Stayed here for 4 nights and the room was big, beds comfortable and staff friendly. The place just needs a designer to come in and decorate the place !
Also Wifi on the 3rd floor was terrible.

    Good base to access Darwin

We stayed here for 5 nights. The hotel is located in a quiet area. Though we didn't use them, it has a restaurant on the roof, bar etc.
The room itself was well presented though you can see the hotel is an older style as the bathrooms are average in their presentation.
A lot of workers use the hotel too so you will get some noise in the early hours of the morning as they get ready to go to work.
Generally not bad. We would stay again. Its a great place to access all the areas of Darwin from. We didn't have any problems with parking either.

10 mins from Mitchell St, a very good valued hotel.

For a 3.5 star hotel it was great value. After our 5 day Kakadu camping safari, it was luxury. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. As a first, the shampoo didn't wreck my hair. Loved the view over the golf course to Mindil Beach. The lifts were unbelievably prompt. The laundry was spacious with 6 washers and driers. The driers even on low were quick to dry thick hiking socks. The staff were helpful and friendly. Especially enjoyed the cooked buffet breakfasts watching the sunrise over the city, and we even forwent dining out for a great priced buffet dinner. Its only a short walk to all that Darwin offers, next door to the golf course' close to Mindil Beach, the Botanical gardens and Mitchell street.

    Fair value for money

I always like to think of the amount I've paid when writing reviews. You can't expect a 5 star hotel at a 3 star price.
The Frontier has always been good value for money. Yes, you can get something twice as good, but it'll be twice the price.
This hotel is old, although I've noticed on this trip (I haven't stayed here for years) the air cons don't rattle, the carpet is clean, some of the furniture is upgraded, and the reception staff are still very friendly.
The bar underneath is still a dive, the bathrooms still have some mould, and the entire place is, well, 3 star at a 3 star price.
I've stayed in some of the top 100 hotels in the world.
I'll stay here again, just because it's fair value for money.

    Pleasantly surprised.

We booked in for two nights at the end of April because it was cheap. I then read some on the reviews on Trip Advisor and thought 'oh dear'; for others that read the same reviews I would like to give my positive impressions.

Check in was quick, easy and pleasant - the young lady was friendly and helpful.

The room was large and clean. Yes the bathroom was dated and there was a patch on the ceiling, about the size of a saucer, that needed repainting, but it did not stop me having a great shower, with excellent water strength, nice toiletries and thick white towels to dry myself. There was a good hairdryer too, The room had a queen and a single bed, a small table and two chairs, a domestic under counter fridge. An extra bonus should be given for a large jug of chilled water and chilled glasses in the fridge, the forethought and consideration of this should not be underestimated - Darwin is hot. There was an new air conditioning unit in the room, plus iron, ironing, board, kettle, cups, etc.

The sheets on the bed were crisp and clean.

There was a view of the sea from the window.

We swam in the pool on the second day - the garden is obviously in the process of being tidied up after the wet season - but the pool is 25m - large and clean.
We also eat at the "Punter's Bar" at lunchtime on the Saturday - traditional, large, counter meals - with all very pleased at the end with the only complaint being that they had eaten too much.

It seems that most of the patrons work at the gas development in the area - so breakfast is served from 3 to 6 and there are boot scrapers at the hotel entrance but please do not let that deter you from taking advantage of the great deals on offer at this hotel. We paid $150 for two nights.

To recap, large clean room, thick towels, crisp white sheets, considerate extras like the chilled water, a large clean pool and helpful staff and free wifi.

I would definitely stay there again.
