I had a single room which was ok but the bathroom was freezing because there was no heating in it. The bathroom wasnt particularly clean either
The complementary breakfast was ok and the guy behind reception was really helpful and friendly

Has been smartened up since last visit. Very clean all round. Excellent seasonal meal, tasty tomato soup with croutons. Generous portion of turkey with plenty of vegetables, followed by Christmas pudding, then coffee and mince pies. Reasonable wine prices. Service a bit slow , but worth the wait.

To put the review in context, we had just returned from a superb ibis styles hotel in Liverpool - but the decor was a little tired; the car park was full so we parked in the public car park (£16 a night); the breakfast was adequate but somewhat limited and uninspired.
On the plus side the evening receptionist was great, the room was a good size and the bathroom really big for this type of hotel.
Midweek it was expensive for a double - even for Reading.

Stayed here for one night. Room nicely furnished but very small. Single bed too and not sure bed had been made too well. Really strong smell of artificial vanilla everywhere but this does not mask the smell of the Indian restaurant on site. I like Indian food but woke up with the smell on me and breakfast room was spoilt with the smell. Bit off putting really. Staff friendly though.

We booked this hotel whilst in town for the Reading festival. After following the recent trip advisor reviews of this hotel we were dubious about our stay, yet I can honestly say we had no reason to worry!
Location of this hotel is perfect for the city centre, shops and restaurants. We parked at the nearby Queen Street NCP (this was a nightmare to find as the postcode on the website is completely wrong!).
Check in was friendly and fast. I had booked a room on the top floor, which the receptionist questioned as this hotel does not have a lift.
Yes, the staircases are steep and narrow in some places. But anyone with a good level of fitness would not struggle with this. Plus you only have to carry your bags up once when you check in, and down when you leave!
Our room was surprisingly spacious. Tea and coffee making facilities, hanging rail, desk and chair, television and free wifi.
The room did not have air conditioning, but the window could be opened and a fan is provided in the room.
Our room was cleaned to a high standard each day, drinks replenished and plenty of clean towels provided.
At no point did we smell curry anywhere in our room or in the stairwells.
Breakfast was full continental, which was perfect for us. A hot breakfast can be ordered for £6-7.
We were so pleased that we did not cancel our booking for this hotel as it was perfect for our stay. We shall definitely stay here again when back in reading!
