What People are saying

We found this motel to be a real mixed bag - read all of the review about the good & bad

J H Mon 09/11/2017 18:58

The Good:
The breakfast is one of the best we have found in mid-range motels. One morning, I made two of the best Texas-shaped waffles I have ever made. Batter was just right. We stayed two nights and the hot breakfasts menus were different, so there is a rotation. The lady who runs the breakfast area is extremely nice and friendly - she works hard.

The mattress was better than many motel mattresses.

One of the irritating issues.
When I made the reservations, the website indicated 2 no-smoking kings were available, and 1 "accessible" king was available.
I selected a no-smoking king rather than the "accessible" because so many "accessible" motel rooms are poorly designed but when we arrived at 8:00 pm, there were none of the no-smoking kings available, and we were switched to the "accessible" king.

The negatives about the "accessible" king:
Wife and I are seniors (ages 74 and 70) but we are not feeble- We could not get the deadbolt to function (a real negative on a major interstate). I went back to the office and asked for assistance. The clerk came back and with pounding, the deadbolt finally closed (which prevents the electric lock from being opening from the outside.) Although I am 74, I am fairly large - 6'-3" 220 lbs- I learned how to hit the door with my shoulder and get the deadbolt to lock. This is a really crappy situation for an "accessible" room! A person in a wheelchair would never get the deadbolt to close!

The in-room coffee maker is placed on the top shelf of the cabinet for the microwave & fridge, which is about shoulder high on me (remember 6' 3" tall). Wife (5' 9") struggled with getting the in-room coffee maker moved down to the same shelf as the microwave, A person in a wheel chair could never use the coffee maker. Gave up on making coffee in the room the 2nd morning.

The bottom of the tub is SLICK! Made me wonder if they use some cleaning chemical that leaves a waxed finish?

One of my motel reviews from several years ago mentioned slipping and falling in a motel tub. Fortunately, I did not break anything on me. This motel has a rubber mat in the tub, but it is the smallest size available.

The control for switching water from tub spout to shower head is one of those "pull down rings" on the tub spout - like the deadbolt it is DIFFICULT to use. We managed by one of us in the shower and the other sitting by the tub to operate the control.

When many motels equip an "accessible" bathroom, they delete the vanity in the bathroom and install only a wall hung sink. The wall hung sink allows someone in a wheelchair to roll up to the sink, but it is so high that it would be difficult to use. The lack of a vanity around a sink is a real pain for those who would like to have a place to stack a few items (tooth brush, comb, etc.).

NOTE: Wife is a retired Registered Nurse with BS & MS and 45 yrs total experience, about 20 yrs was work as a Case Manager in one of the highly ranked rehabilitation hospitals in Texas. She had coached many families on how to convert their homes to truly accessible for patients. She knows her stuff about "accessible" and this room falls far short. .

Good Value, Fair Room

So it goes with "Pet Friendly" hotels, the room had several puppy puddle stains on the carpet and on the couch. Also a staleness in the air covered over with air freshener. It seems to me that if a business is going to allow dogs, the people who run it would notice the stains and get them professionally removed "every time" one occurred.

Other than that, the bed was comfortable and the bath area was clean. The staff was polite. We only stayed one night and didn't linger in the room, so I didn't ask to be moved to another room. But if we had stayed longer, I don't think I could have comfortably walked on that carpet or sat on that couch.

It's a great place to stay in Abilene

We always look for quality and a reasonable price wherever we travel. This hotel fit the bill. It was a quiet location and everything about our room was comfortable. It's not the fanciest place around, but we got a great night's sleep and were very happy with the price we paid.

The employees are wonderful. We enjoyed a good breakfast. At first we were disappointed because we thought there was a Braum's in town and we were looking forward to going there for breakfast. But when we realized that Braum's was nowhere around, we were o.k. with the complimentary breakfast that was served at the Quality Inn. They served both hot (really good omelets the day we were there, besides waffles and hot cereal) and the usual cold food choices; and it was nice to have some variety. It wasn't busy so the front desk clerk visited with us while we ate. She told us about the area and we know that the next time we come through Abilene, we'll definitely stay here.

Great place to stay

This hotel is quite nice and is our go to hotel when we visit Abilene. It is an older hotel, but recent renovations have really turned it into a pretty little hotel. The breakfast is like most served at any other chain hotel. They always have hot coffee available in the lobby. The rooms are clean, and the folks do a good job cleaning the room during your stay.

A Pleasant Stay at Abilene's Quality Inn

CPGTheATeamon 04/10/2015 06:33

During a recent business trip from Fort Worth to Lubbock and Clovis, NM, I spent an enjoyable evening at Abilene's Quality Inn. In fact, I enjoyed my stay so much that I also spent a night there during my return trip to Fort Worth.

From cheerful "Welcomes" upon arrival by Barbara and Nicole until my next morning departures, I was warmly welcomed and received the personalized treatment ChoiceHotels attempts to provide each of its guests. Upon my arrival both nights, I was recognized as a member of the ChoicePriveleges Rewards Program and received a nice bag of treats.

For both nights, I had a large, first-floor room that included a comfortable king-sized bed, desk/work area, and large-screen television set. My rooms also contained a micro-wave, refrigerator, and plenty of counter space. This Quality Inn has a nice outdoor swimming pool, a business center with a computer and printer, and additional extras."

In the morning, I had delicious breakfasts that included a variety of hot and cold food items as well as a wide selection of hot and cold "Breakfast Beverages." Food was plentiful and served in a clean eating area specifically designed for serving breakfast to guests.

With the 10% discount I received for being a member of the AAA, the nightly cost for my room was about $60.00. For this price, I received a comfortable, nicely furnished room, had a delicious breakfast, and was able to use the Guests' Business Center.

The Inn's friendly and helpful staff certainly added to the enjoyment of my stay. On a regular basis, I saw and interacted with Barbara and Nicole. I also met Paul, the new manager at this Qualtiy Inn. Each of them, as well as all other members of the staff, were personable, professional, and did everything possible to make sure my stays were pleasant ones.

According to Paul, this Quality Inn will be renovated during the months to come. I am looking forward to returning to see the many renovations now being planned, spending a restful night in an updated room, and receiving excellent service from the Inn's helpful staff.
