BEDBUGS!

I am a high school cheer coach and we booked this hotel last minute when our girls got a bid to state competition held at VCU. I did not do my research. We booked 6 rooms. 4 rooms for 16 high school cheerleaders, 1 for two coaches (our room) and one for the bus driver.
The lobby was neat and clean, giving the illusion the rooms would reflect the same. 1st problem: the first room we walked into had not be cleaned. sheets on the floor, smelled like smoke and vomit, tissues and other stuff on the counters. Front desk assigned us different room. 2nd problem: ALL the non smoking rooms smelled like cigarette smoke. We had the girls wiped down all hard surfaces with disinfectant wipes that we provided and turn down the beds. There were no signs of bed bugs in any of their rooms. Finally getting to our room, we turn down the beds and we did not see any bugs however, we both felt safe only sleeping with the top sheet on us.
I woke up to being bit! I had welps on my hand that was under the pillow, my ear, and my neck. I woke up the other coach and showed her my bites... I turn around and on my pillow. BED BUG. I grabbed the ziplock bag my toothbrush was in and scooped the bug into the bag. Not a minute later another appeared from my pillow, I also scooped this in a bag. As I headed down to talk to the front desk my roommate sent me a picture of one she found on her bed and the one she killed.
The front desk help was not nice. I kindly told her to problem and showed her the bed bugs in the bag, still moving and her response was " We have never had this problem" after making me wait a solid 15 minutes while she "helped" other costumers @ 1 am the only thing she said was " well I guess we can move you to a different room, our maintenance isn't here at night" The room she gave us we on the same floor and must have a demo room. It didn't smell as bad and was much cleaner in any of the the other rooms we had. (still a hint of smoke) but by that time, 2am, We were both up and I was itching.
When the other coach (who the hotel was booked under) talk to manager in the morning the best he could do was give us half off the room
1/2 off!? We did not have time to argue the point. We had to be at Seigel Center within the hour. The girls complained of constant running toilets, showers that didn't drain, and balcony doors that leaked water from the downpour that night.

The only upside to this horrible hotel is the wonder diner it's connected to. I am going to write them a separate review. I feel sorry that they are attached.

Unprofessional

I made reservations and paid for one night online. Reservation was confirmed and credit card charged. I showed up to check-in today only to be told by the guy at the front desk that my room was not paid for and proceeded to ask me for payment. I told him that I had paid and asked him to check. He really didn't seem to want to be bothered and just kept telling me that it wasn't paid for so I left since I had no intention of paying twice. I double-checked with my credit card company and indeed it had been charged. I called the hotel to tell them and all the person at the desk (a different person this time) would say is "yes, I see here that the payment was made", but of course no responsibility was taken on their end. What a waste. Go somewhere else, you're bound to find better service elsewhere.

Not even a 1 star hotel

We had a last minute trip to Richmond and went through Hotwire (which we will never do again) and it was showing a 3 star property around $100 a night. The examples it gave was Hilton/Radisson etc. We went through with it and got this. We called Hotwire after reading the reviews and said it was nothing as listed. Anyhow we decide it is just one night and went.

Well we got there and it is a sketchy place and as we walked into the building there was a heavy smell of smoke and looked like they have never been through renovations. We got to our room and disgusting! The siding was all ripped off, bugs on the AC unit, a non smoking room smelling heavly on smoke. The toilet was not working and the beds did not look like double bed.

Got on the phone with Hotwire and told them how they were falsy selling a 1 star property as a 3 star. I refused to have my family stay in such a filthy run down place. After telling them of our ordeal, they did move us to a 3 1/2 star Marriott for the same price which was very nice and comfortable.

Stay away at all costs

Traveling through

This is the 3rd time we've stayed here on our travels up and down the I-95 corridor.
It's saved in our gps! It is a great location...easy on and off 95....and also if you want to take 301, Parham Rd takes you right to 301!
Great for the budget....quiet, clean, and we've always had excellent service!
River City Diner is next door...we love it...and always have a relaxing and enjoyable time at the bar there. A fantastic breakfast at the diner is included in your stay!

Good hotel, moderately priced, staff was great, breakfast out of this world!!

We picked this hotel after much research and checking with relatives in the area on its location. All reported back it was a good choice. And it was! Front desk was helpful especially Andrew Schultz. The internet was OK but we weren't there for the internet, it was for our son's wedding! Barul (spelling?) from housekeeping was so nice and efficient. She was very helpful. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel called the River City Diner~ it was fantastic both in the food and staff, especially Annette who worked in the morning. Best Part?? The breakfast from the menu was FREE!!! The price of the breakfast was included in the price of the room! If you live in the area you should stop in for a meal, a great dining experience with healthy food. This hotel and restaurant would be my choice when we are back in the Richmond area. Also Harry at the front desk was very helpful in fixing an error I found 45 days after my stay, he was gracious and understanding.
