This property is under new ownership. I'm excited to seem new changes that have occurred and looking forward to new ones. What we did appreciate on the outset was Pregnash, the desk manager welcomed us when we walked in. He recognized us as Diamond level members of Choice Privileges and gave us a property gift. That is tops in our book as so many properties do not acknowledge our dedication and loyalty to Choice. The only recommendations I would make to the new owners is to make sure the housekeeping staff does a regular thorough cleaning of the rooms - a good full vacuum of the rooms, get behind the furniture. Real eggs at breakfast. I recommend a larger wifi network.

You get your money's worth

Which is really what you want to know. This place was relatively inexpensive on a Va Tech homecoming weekend. Our room had outdated and low-quality fixtures, interior doors, furnishings, etc, but oddly had a granite countertop in the sink area, and of course you get a flat-screen TV. Our hair dryer was so weak it was useless. Rooms all open to the outside rather than to an interior hall. But the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, and the room and the whole facility were clean, which are the two most important things. Breakfast was ok too. We'd stay again and ask for a room with a working hair dryer.

Too noisy

The price was OK, but the room is very noisy from the traffic on the highway. Only got lukewarm water from the bathroom sink. Typical hotel breakfast served minus the sausage or bacon. Would not stay here again.

A Good Night's Rest

I just wanted a place close to an I-81 interchange so I could get a good night's sleep before finishing my northbound journey the next day. The two people at the desk were very helpful. My room was on ground level. Entries are external; no corriders. Just past the Inn, if you turn left at the stoplight, there is a road full of businesses and places to eat. I did not want to lose my parking space at the Inn, so I used the McDonald's drive-through and returned to the Inn with my dinner. McDonald's is a good ways down on the left, but I could see their "golden arches" from a distance. I had a good sleep at the Inn. I did not take a shower so I can't comment on that. I only sponged off and left. I wanted to continue northbound quickly so I did not eat their morning breakfast offerings. (Note 1) Allow time before rushing in front of oncoming traffic, because there are dips to the roadway and you will get a jolt. (Note 2) You cannot cross the street easily to get back onto I-81 north, but I just turned left at the light again. Then I used their convenient center turning lane to turn left into a business so that I could then make a right and head back.

The moment we got off the highway I felt depressed

Salem VA is one of those depressing towns that is mixed industrial with residential and business properties. The motel didn't help much. Our room was old and dark and could use a few more lights. The staff did not appear to care about being friendly or welcoming but liked to smoke and stare. If you are an non smoker, you will be bothered by the amount of smoke you will smell as people don't seem to understand the concept of nonsmoking. What do you expect when staff stands outside NONSMOKING guest rooms and puff away as they do their jobs? The breakfast they offered was hot eggs, sausage, and sad biscuits this Yankee gal could make better. As the days passed (we stayed 3) the breakfast tasted worse and worse as they watered down the coffee, provided less choices, and were slow to replenish things. There are other choices in Salem should you find yourself in this place so don't rely on the Quality Inn name but get yourself somewhere people actually try to be a little bit more animated and seem like they are actually interested in the guests.
