Poor customer service and dirty rooms that need updating
Princess-Tashy on 19/11/2017 19:39
Me and my partner stayed here for one night at the end of October. We have stayed at other Classic Lodges before, and decided to stay here whilst visiting the Nene Valley Railway. The location is in a quiet, quaint village.
On arrival, I found nobody at reception so I entered the bar and informed a male member of staff we are here to check in. We requested to book a table in the Inn for later this evening.
My first impressions of the room (room 5) are that it smelt musty, and it was very warm (not a pleasant, toasty warm, but an uncomfortable warmth)
Later on, I went back to the bar to order our afternoon tea. I also requested dinner again as I noticed nothing was written down earlier when I originally enquired about dinner, so I wanted to make sure it was booked. The afternoon tea was fetched to our room by the male member of staff (I don’t know his name) I had a pot of peppermint tea and my partner had a pot of coffee. There were 2 scones, with a ramekin of jam and a ramekin of cream, 3 strawberry pastries and 2 profiteroles. My only niggle is there was no knife to spread the jam and cream.
We had our dinner in the Inn. Our starter was the ‘chicken liver and herb parfait, with red onion marmalade and crostini’. The food was tasty, no complaints here.
My main was the ‘roasted pheasant, with honeyed parsnips and creamed cabbage’. The pheasant was rather dry but the rest of the food was delicious. My partner had the ‘confit duck leg, with lentil cassoulet and crème fraiche’.
My dessert was the ‘mango panna cotta with raspberry coulis and white chocolate’ which was very nice.
The room was nice enough but the bathroom was basic, and both need updating and cleaning thoroughly.
1) There is mould on the shower tiles
2) The wallpaper is peeling off in several locations
3) The skirting boards were filthy
4) Cobwebs were in multiple locations
For breakfast, I chose sausages, egg and bacon, a croissant and sliced meat and cheese. My partner had the full English which was nice.
At check out, we were given a bill for the extra food and drink we had, which the allocation of £20 per person doesn’t cover. It wasn’t until we got to our car that we realised the receptionist didn’t charge us for the hotel. We booked online and chose the £119 option. I can only assume the receptionist thought we had paid online already. I then went back and paid this.
It wasn’t until I got home on the evening of Saturday 28th, and unpacked my suitcase, I realised that I left my phone charger in the room. I immediately rang the hotel and spoke to a female member of staff. She told me the room I stayed in (room 5) was occupied so could not look in there, took my name and phone number and said somebody would call me tomorrow (Sunday 29th) Nobody did call me. I then rang back again the evening of Sunday 29th, to speak to another female member of staff, also have my name and number taken, and to again be told somebody would call me tomorrow (Monday 30th). Again, nobody did call me. I then called AGAIN on the evening of Monday 30th, and spoke to the male member of staff who checked us in. I told him the situation, and that nobody has rang me back. He had a look in a lost property box and then asked what sort of charger it was, I told him it was an iphone charger. He took my address and told me he would get it posted. I thought this was the end of my troubles, but no. I rang on Wednesday 1st November, to confirm if the charger had been posted or not. I was told by the gentleman it had (although I wasn’t told if it was posted on the Tuesday or the Wednesday) I still hadn’t received my charger by Tuesday 7th November so I rang back again. I rang again on the evening of Sunday 12th of November, told the gentleman I still don’t have my charger. He told me he would go to the post office tomorrow and chase it up. I waited until the evening (of Monday 13th) and yet again, nobody had called me back to update me after the visit to the post office. He told me my charger had been sent to the wrong address and is currently at a depot. Why not ring me up and tell me this? Why did I have to ring AGAIN to find this out?
Rather surprisingly, on the evening of Thursday 16th November, I received a call from a female member of staff at the Inn (She told me her name but I don’t remember it) She asked if I had received my charger yet. I told her that no I still don’t have my charger yet and that when I spoke to the gentleman, he told me it was sent to the wrong address and was at a depot. She couldn’t understand why I don’t have it yet as it was posted ‘a few days ago’. She told me if my charger doesn’t arrive, there is nothing else they can do. This annoyed me as surely they will be able to file a claim for a missing item? I assume they have a tracking number as how else would they know my charger was sent to the wrong address and is at a depot? I asked her to check the address they had for me was correct. She told me she would ask the gentleman when he comes on shift at 6pm and ring me back. Not surprisingly, nobody rang me back!! I then rang back AGAIN on Friday 17th November, spoke to the gentleman again who told me it was posted again on Monday 13th November. (4 days ago) I told him the lady was going to call me back and she didn’t. He said she was on her break at the minute and he would get her to call me back. Yet again, nobody called me back.
I am so annoyed by the poor customer service. I got fed up of making multiple phone calls to find out if they had my charger, has it been posted, where is it now, etc. I was told multiple times somebody would ring me back and this only happened on one occasion, nearly 2 weeks after I first rang up! I feel like nobody actually cares and I am being fobbed off. I don’t know if my charger really was posted or if it was stolen/lost. Why tell me multiple times somebody will call me back, and then not call me back? This is not an acceptable way to trust customers. All of my post that arrives, arrives within 4 days. Nothing takes this long to post and none of my post has been sent to the wrong address before. I understand this fault would lie with Royal Mail and not the Inn, but something doesn’t quite feel right to me. It's now Sunday 19th of November and I still don't have my charger. If I bought one online it would have arrived by now.
LUNCH A LET DOWN

Having been on a group walk from this pub we were looking forward to a nice lunch.
Firstly the beer Doom Bar was cloudy and not as it should be.
I ordered fish & chips from the Lite Bites Lunch menu - it was aptly named.
The piece of fish was a child's portion size overcooked , tasteless and oily. The chips were not chips but "French Fries ( as per McDonald's ) - obviously out of a packet as possibly the fish.Mushy peas were passable , but cold. Somebodies bangers & mash consisted of gloppy mash & a whole 3 sausages. So overall a big disappointment and will not be dining here again or recommending to anyone.
Afternoon tea for 4!

The tea, sandwiches and cakes we're absolutely lovely. No problems with them at all: But during our visit we weren't asked if everything was okay or if we needed extra milk or tea so it was a case of waiting until we saw someone that worked there and shouting them over to get more tea and milk.

We had a fantastic morning walk around the area starting at the Queens Head and finishing up with a group meal. We were very keen to try the restaurant as our first impressions were really good. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to expectations, some of our group had the fish and chips which was small with cheap frozen chips we had overcooked Fish cakes with the same chips, won't be rushing back. Such a shame.
Weekend break

I’ve just returned home from Queens Head Inn. Firstly, please do not be put off by any negative reviews! This is a beautiful, quiet and homely inn where the service is absolutely amazing and personal, the rooms are clean and very well equipped. The thing my partner and I liked the most was that when you enter your room (on a cold November evening) the heating is on for when you arrive, that’s a special touch that really impressed us. The bathroom is spacious for a couple, clean and you get lovely toiletries, tea coffee milk sugar all available. I was really impressed with the homemade biscuits in the room. The rooms feel very cosy, great WiFi signal, great TV with lots of channels. The dinner felt luxurious they really make you feel like you are special and are very attentive. Breakfast was lovely with a good selection of cereals, toast, jams, juice for free. I would really recommend this for anyone, the lake and outside seating area just tops it off.
