Did not meet expectations

I have very mixed feelings about the Raas - certain things are wonderful and others quite frankly are plain terrible.
Prior to booking I read some tripadvisor revues including the not so good ones in order to learn what to avoid/bear in mind and decided on a Luxury double room with balcony as I did not want a garden room with a wall around it. I booked 2 nights 9.5 month in advance of our stay with booking.com which illustrate the Luxury double rooms at upper levels overlooking the pool and with a view of the fort. When we were allocated a garden room (101) I was not impressed but was told there were no other rooms available. Half an hour later I was shown an upper floor room at the back of the property. This room did overlook the fort but the balustrading was very high and the openable part of the screen in front high up leaving the room very dark, presumably to block the less attractive view of the rooftops in front. As the rooms were identical and both with poor views we decided to stay in 101. I have never before been or felt 'downgraded' in a hotel.
The actual rooms are pleasant with good bathrooms. Luggage storage is small and there is no space to unpack - a few hangers on the wall and one drawer. The minibar, safe and coffee/tea arrangement has been located in the luggage space rather than incorporated in the room which makes full access ackward.
The restaurant and rooftop bar are very good with good service and we enjoyed our dinners here on both nights of our stay. Breakfast is ok too, a bit limited in choice but good quality.
Having visited spas at Banyan Tree, Belmond, and Aman hotels, the spa at the Raas was first class, and the treatments given by the therapists and in particular by Khushbu were as good as experienced in any of these 5*+ hotels.
The pool is good, but for some reason the attendant refused to move a parasol to be adjacent to sun loungers.
The general ambience of the hotel is lovely and it looks especially attractive in the evening when lit.
On the morning of departure I asked for our packed luggage to be collected and taken to reception at 7.30am. Whilst we were having breakfast a porter came to our table and asked for the room key to collect the luggage. I thought this odd but gave him the key expecting it to be returned as we still had toiletries, handbag etc to collect. The key was not returned and when we enquired at reception they said the room had been emptied! And it had - my toothbrush with toothpaste on was sticking up from a pocket in a bag. I was rather furious as it feels an intrusion on ones privacy when porters start to interfere with personal possessions. I retrieved the key and returned to the room as after all we had paid for the room until 12.00.
The service and level of professionalism at front desk is very poor and as far as we are aware there were no management present whilst we stayed.
Breathtaking

My wife and I will talk about our stay at Raas for many years to come. Right from our first moment, turning the corner into the hotel our breath was taken away - the view is truly breathtaking, as is everything about the hotel; rooms, bathrooms, service and food. Breakfast is phenomenal, you would think you are in a 5* hotel in Paris, not Jodhpur, while the dinner is similarly delicious. A highlight for us was a tour of the blue city in the electric Tuk-Tuk - it felt like driving a Ferrari you had so many people watching you.
While it is pricey, I could not recommend it more highly.
A room/hotel with not just a view, but THE view

I confess to thinking Mehrangarth is one of the most amazing places I've ever visited (this was my 3rd time) and to have a room/hotel/roof top bar with a great view of the fort was special. RAAS is pretty modern but built in a sympathetic style, food is excellent, service superb and the electric Tuk-tuk a fun way to see the backstreets. Not cheap, but worth every penny for a stylish oasis of calm right in the heart of the city.
Perfect in so many ways!

The list of perfections is extensive: the service, facilities, architecture, food, design, comfort...EVERYTHING we experienced was wonderful.
I loved the secluded nature of the place, as well as the zen like vibe that permeates the entire hotel. This is clearly part of the design, which absolutely nails it in every aspect. The deluxe rooms are spacious and full of clever design features (love that there is a separate room for luggage, fridge and safe, which can be closed off so that your 'stuff' doesn't ruin the beauty of the room!).
The rooftop bar of Baradari was the romantic spot, champagne in hand, to watch the lights come on of an evening to showcase the fort. Breakfasts provided a huge choice for all tastes and the standing heaters in winter were a nice touch so we could stay outdoors and enjoy the garden.
We loved our stay at RAAS and would definitely stay here again on our return.
Splendid

Our arrival was somewhat infra dig squeezed into a tuk-tuk with guide and luggage due to the roads being closed off for Dewali! But a lovely welcome at this spectacular hotel. It is right in the middle of town overlooked by the massive Mehrangarh fort. The hotel is built very cleverly around an original eighteenth century Haveli. Our suite was absolutely splendid. There was an ice cold bottle of bubbly awaiting us (what a treat - thank you Raas), and a set of rooms in the old part of the Haveli. The service was efficient and friendly.
