Could do better

We stayed here twice during our visit to Iceland which was a round island coach tour starting and ending in Reykjavik. There is a major room refurbishment programme ongoing with the 4th and 5th floors affected during our stay. Our first stay (one night) was in an old standard room on the 6th floor which felt dated in all respects, however it will be upgraded so I won’t go into details here although it was very small for a 4 star hotel. Our second stay (4 nights) was in one of the newly refurbished Business Class rooms on the 4th floor but that didn’t start well as the porter managed to lose one of our suitcases for a while! This room was clearly a great improvement over our old standard room and had a nice big TV, a fancy coffee maker (but sadly no instructions how to use it), plenty of electrical sockets, fridge and a safe. Unfortunately the room was not cleaned properly, an issue that sadly prevailed throughout our stay despite complaints to reception. The en-suite was a shower in bath, but quite a deep bath and my elderly father would really struggle to get in and out of it - a hand rail would be useful. Very annoyingly, the wash hand basin had no plug and, typical of Iceland, the water had a strong odour of sulphur (we were told to run the tap, but that did not seem to make a difference). From our room on 4th floor we were aware of drilling noises from refurbishment work from 0900 to 1800, I think this will go on for some time yet. There was also some noise from local airport depending upon wind direction. We could also hear the lifts from our room (451). WiFi was very intermittent, but a router was provided on request. Buffet breakfast was adequate. There was live music on Thursday evening. There is the dormant building site next door which will apparently be an extension to the university. A large sign states that it should have been completed in 2016, but there was no sign of work starting any time soon, but it may worth checking with the hotel before booking. The hotel has nice views, is a 20 minute walk from the city centre and had friendly staff, however we felt for a 4 star they could do better despite the refurbishment work.

Great location

Stayed here for work in Corporate room. Well appointed and comfortable, good views of the mountains. Breakfast was included, with amazing selection of local and American food choices. Hotel was undertaking significant renovations but not too disruptive. Good walk to city center.

Disappointment

This hotel is in serious need of repair! The hallways look like they hadn't been taken care of for a very long time. The same is true of the room we were in on the 4th floor. The tile in the bathroom floor was cracked, the bathtub/shower very hard to get into and confusing to use. If I were Radisson, I would be embarrassed to have my name on this hotel! A huge disappointment, but we loved Iceland!!

Great country, disappointing Hotel

For a hotel that cost a small fortune I was disappointed to not find the usual Radisson blue standards. The rooms are circa 1980, the curtains are too light for the land of the midnight sun, the beds are small and hard and the TV was so old it wasn't even flat screen!
The hotel appears to be having a refit as there was loads of skips out the back of the hotel so at least they are doing something about it. Also breakfast was extra. However team were lovely and really helpful.

Undergoing renovations, but still works.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in May 2017 The negative that we found was that the hotel was undergoing renovations on a couple of its floors and one of its dining rooms. Being at the hotel during the day could be a bit noisy with construction, especially if you were sitting in the bar.

However, that was the only glaring negative for the hotel. It was near enough city center and the other landmarks that you could still walk everywhere. The hotel is a block away from the National Museum of Iceland, and about a 10-15 minute walk from everything in downtown Reykjavik. All of the tours will pick you up from the hotel and drop you off there.

But what you really want to know if the hotel itself. The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had all of the needed amenities. The hotel offered a delicious buffet breakfast every morning that had everything we needed or wanted.

However, the staff was fantastic, and they should be commended for working in that environment with that construction going. When my wife told the front desk that we were there for our 10th wedding anniversary, we were upgraded to a larger room, and the front desk sent up a complimentary plate of chocolates and bottle of white wine for us. The staff was very responsive to our requests for extra pillows or blankets, and brought them to us promptly.

The bar was cool, offering 2 for 1 drinks during happy hour and staying open late during the evenings. The bartenders were friendly and offered restaurant recommendations and tour recommendations for visitors.

The gym wasn't anything to write home about. But, you'd rather be out on a long run through the city.

I wish I could have been at this hotel after the renovation. It will be incredible. The staff was fantastic, and the price was right.
