What People are saying

Stay away.

On the outside this looks like a nice hotel. The staff are not friendly Thge rooms are average size but the bathroom is poorly designed. The shower is over the bath and you need to use a shower curtain. However, the shower pressure is so strong that the curtain does not prevent the water from going all over the floor no matter how you position the curtain in the bath.

Service in the restaurant is a virtually non existent. we waiting over 1.5 hours for our main meal. In the end we walked out. The staff don't care at all and just shrug their shoulders and grunt.

The breakfast selection is well below average with some food looking like it has been used over and over to prevent it going to waste.

Overall I would not recommend anyone stay at this hotel.

Friendly place to stay

Stayed overnight here recently on business and will do so again in the future. Arrived late after a fraught and eventful trip (a 20 mile diversion thanks to my Sat Nav being the final straw!) I was greeted with a big smile and made to feel very welcome. The rooms are well appointed, spacious and very comfortable. The bar is a treat and serves a great pint of Guinness. The following morning having just checked out after a good breakfast I was waiting in reception for a colleague. I overheard the same very charming receptionist giving another guest directions and parking advice for his day in the city. She capped it by giving him the hotel's number telling the guest " If you get lost or need any help be sure and phone us. One of us will help you out if you don't get me..."
A great advert for her employer and her home town.

Good hotel, let down by lack of entertainment

Booked for a special birthday so the four of us were looking forward to a break in the city. We chose DaVincis as it was a repeat business, whilst not city centre, location is good and as it had music in the evening in the lounge, we were keen to stay again. Unfortunately the music group cancelled and there was no alternative. Very disappointing as at that late stage we felt it was too late to move elsewhere and get taxis etc at that time of night.
Some bar staff did try and soften the blow, a mention needs to go to Padraic O'Kane.
Meal lovely in lounge and breakfast good also, rooms clean, staff very friendly and helpful.

lovely

Stayed in this hotel for one night as I was in Derry for business.I read some of the reviews and was anticipating something not very good. Was pleased to say this is a great hotel, very friendly, the room was large with 2 double beds and the decor was modern and everything was clean- what more do you want? And the breakfast was great the next morning, nice friendly woman called Geraldine in charge, and a whole array to choose from, I had cooked Breakfast and cereal, it was lovely, so am looking forward to staying here again
this week!

Decidedly average

My partner and I stayed here recently well visiting two friends in Derry, and though we didn't have an awful stay we didn't have a great stay either.
Firstly the rooms are of a good size but easily the warmest I have ever stayed in, not warm in a cosy way but rather stifling and uncomfortable. We were not the only people to actually feel this way as we spoke to 3 other couples, who are also friends of ours staying at the property that also felt the same way. Luckily I was able to turn the heating down to the thermostat on the radiator but it was at 3 o'clock in the morning when I woke and was then unable to sleep.
The breakfast itself wasn't great, the sausages were very very poor quality as was the white pudding which did not resemble white pudding at all, there is an option for freshly cooked options such as as kippers for example however i didn't find this out till the second morning by which time it was too late as the waiting staff never come over to ask you and should you want anything from the fresh menu.
The bar itself hear this hotel is excellent however, The staff here are great they go out of their way to make sure even offering to sit and have a full glass and a very friendly and personable. The little nooks here in the bar are smashing little feature and a great if they're are a small group of friends hoping to sit down and talk and catch up.
I was extremely disappointed however when we were asked to leave the main bar and told to go to the residents bar where will be able to continue our night, however after one drink in the residents bar we were told we were having no more and we could sit in the lobby or go to bed.
I think on the outside of the hotel the rooms the bar everything really is lovely and it's not until you get closer you realise that there are a lot of cracks that you can't see from the surface. It will take a really good manager just to turn this around because all the basic elements are already there, once this is done it will be a fantastic hotel to stay in Derry, it is probably the reason why it's currently ranked where it is in Derry and is not ranked higher.
