Lovely hotel, amazing setting, amazing scenery on the ride in and then a very easy to find hotel. Underground parking again with plenty of room for the bikes. As it was out of season for a ski resort very reasonably priced. Booked a single room each for me and RTBBD and again a double bed, massive room, Huge bathroom with an awesome shower, just the thing after 12 hours hooning around the alps on the bikes, massive telly, plenty of seating, very comfy bed.
Downstairs to the very nice bar area and the a la carte restaurant. Cracking food - very nice fish and risotto starter - RTBBD was very impressed with his dissolved oxo cube and dumplings (consomme I think the posh call it) Main was a schnitzel with parsnip mash and cranberry jelly. Damn tasty. All washed down with a few more radebergers.
Breakfast was again excellent - really nice big room and some verandah seating for the al fresco experience. Another good range of hot and cold and once again they didn't stuff up the scrambled eggs. Good stuff and eat as much as you can.
didn't get to use the pool or the spa but saw lots of happy people wandering around in the very nice robes supplied in the room in a little wicker basket (nice touch) who all looked very shiny and spa'd up so it must be good.
For a very reasonable price it was a very comfortable and up market experience. Would definitely go back. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Would stay again and would recommend. The added bonus of the secure parking for the bikes just puts the cherry on a very nice cake.
Interesting hotel

The sauna was superbly designed, too bad it was only available until a little after 19.00hrs. The room was redesigned and modern. However there was a strange little smell in there, so we threw open the windows and the balcony door. The view was up north (north west). The balcony had a lot of privacy for anything you'd desire.
The beds were very good, the toilet and bathroom were very good, however I still like the toilet not to be square, but simply rounded, ti shi... Better.
The design of the room was an attempt for being modern and using light a lot. However the 'z' or was it an 's' (?) in cheapish dark brown sort of wood, was not my cup of tea.
The breakfast was in a terribly uncozy space and the contents were except for the diaries, though plentyful, not that good. The price for the venue was rather high, the parking in the cellar was fine, though closed off.
We were vositing off season, early may 2014.
Another excellent Ski holiday

Spent a bit less than a week for a winter ski holiday here. We booked a room with garden view, it was all quiet and we could sleep very well, however I can´ t comment how much of the traffic noise can be heard from the other side. The view from the room on the 2nd floor was amazing. I can only concur with the review of another guest, that the keys with those MASSIVE and HEAVY bronze (?) attachments are very unpractical and I was always praying that it doesn´t fall down on my foot...
The absolute highlight here is the cuisine, dinners were fantastic (breakfasts too), although on the other hand, after a long day of skiing sometimes you just wished the dishes would come quicker. This was extremely irritating when you noticed that the waiters were waiting with the dessert for other latecomers who were still finishing the main dish. So a bit improvement here wouldn´t go a miss. But if you like 2hr dinners then this is definitely the place to be.
The room was spacious, the bath OK, the toliet and bath are unfortunately not separated. Sleep quality was very good and cleaniness spotless. There´s a garage in the hotel, which is a plus. Staff is friendly and helpful. The spa area is modern and tidy, sauna, steam bath, indoor pool are just perfect for relaxing after a day in the mountains. During our week there were no school holidays, so everything was perfectly quiet. Wi-Fi worked well, but the 10hr period after the initial log-in leads to repeated visits of the reception - a 24hr window would be more user-friendly...
Conclusion: Yes, despite not being the cheapest, I would return for another stay (summer ?),
Nice hotel, good food, good services room for improvment in spa area

I booked a ''maissonette ''room third floor. It was spacious and with a very nice view. It is a veryold hoteland clearlly they tried to keep up with the times and in some areas they were succesfful.
Meals (HB) were very tasty and clearlly the chef is a professionist . It is true that beverage priceas are a little high as someof the previous rewieres wrote but there are not unussual for a four star hotel. Services in the restaurant were really good and staf is very friendlly.
Regarding the negative observations there are few but maybe important:
Spa area is relativelly small and the relaxatiin room is conecting the pool area with the sauna area so you can easy be disturbed by those which are comming and going from the sauna area. However the hotel if full of clients with no ideea what a relaxation area means so they are comming inthe area and beggin chatting with loud voice for hours. But this is not the quilt of the hotel but the quilt of the uncivilized customers.
Another issue is that the ski bus is comming only every 30 minutes so ifyou have achild attending the ski school the ski bus programmis not matching the school programm so we used the car .
Overallthe hotel is good, services are good maybe a little overpriced.
PS I forgot to mention that room keys are attached to a bronze piece weighting around half a kilo ,maybe is nice and has a antique flavour but is really unpracticall.
Fine Hotel in Good Location

I stayed at the Rauter for 2 nights. The rooms are fine. The location in the center of the pleasant town of Matrei in Osttirol is ideal. Breakfast was terrific. The restaurant is known for its international menu and it was very good. The draught beer and Austrian wine selections were excellent. The Hotel has fishing rights to over 35 kilometers of local rivers, and I came to fish them in mid-July. When I arrived I was told that they all were not fishable, mostly due to glacial runoff and that July was rarely a good time to fish for that reason. I should have been told that many months earlier when I made a reservation including fishing. Thus, a downgrade on service. Fortunately there are many excellent hiking options in the beautiful mountains surrounding Matrei so I had a good time anyway.
